That was the longest rushing play from scrimmage since 2003 (Julius Jones' run).

How sad is that? What hath become of our rushing game???

Lets see a disappointing OL and the lack of an explosive back(not trying to start a bash DW thread here). By the way our run game between the tackles is average at best, but if you consider that the look passes to Shark and Rhema are extended hand offs are running game isn't as bad as it seems. I know here comes abouit 900 disagreements.

That's the world of a Darius Walker backfield... I love DW but he is a follow the blocker and go down type back... not as much of a burst through the line and fly type... there are positisves and negative to both I suppose but that's the reality of it all... how many pass plays have we had with that kind of yardage? DW is a big part of that too and so is the running game in gen.

I think you nailed it actually, I would be surprised if many (if any) disagreed.

How come Brady waited so long to show us his break-away speed?

By the way, the longest run in Michael Vick's pro career? A pedestrian 58 yards.

brady would've never made it 60 yards downfield in the pros. you can't compare the two. brady certainly isnt at the "vick level" of scrambling.

In case it wasn't obvious, my post was made with tongue firmly in cheek.

Brady looked like he needed oxygen after that run. If he had to do it two or three times in one game, he'd need a respiratory. Not running often could be one of the reasons he's never had an injury problem.

What would it take for someone to overtake Darius as the primary running back? I would love for it to happen and use Darius primarily as a 3rd down back, unfortunately I just don't see it happening.

I certainly would not expect or want to see anyone overtake DW next year. If you look at the offense we will have next year, especially at the skill positions, his experience in the offense will be invaluable. With a new (starting) QB, two new (starting) WR's, a new TE if Carlson leaves, a green O-line and a returning-from-injury FB, having a dependable RB should not be underrated.

While Darius may not be a great running back, I think he is an excellent football player, one of the best "football players" on the team. He plays with passion, does not make many mistakes and has been as dependable as anyone on the team over the past 2 years. He may not light up the stats sheet, but you know what you are getting. Sure, we'd all like to see him break off 50 yard runs every now and then, but next year might be a good year to simply move the chains and have a dependable outlet for a young QB. DW is the right man for this job.

I know I'm gonna get bashed for this, just because it has been discussed a lot, but I really think it would be better if we adapted a running game similar to Nebraska or someone. They have quite a few good backs, and use them all. And well. You really can't find two RB's that differ more than Aldridge and DW. It would really throw defenses on their heels.

What annoys me more than DW's lack of burst speed is how he gravitates towards the sidelines, that has a lot to do with why he doesn't have long runs too. He shies away from contact so much... No LB's are afraid of the guys, no corners, no safeties. If they come up on him, he just tries to run out of bounds.

Why would you care honestly???

If someone is a BETTER player, they should play before him. If they over take him PUT THEM ON THE FIELD...we are dying here!

That being said, NO ONE has over-taken him...even those considered to be better runners.

It will be hard for any player to over-take him since Darius has really mastered the offensive schemes, but if someone DID do that, for God's sakes get them on the field!!!

The best player should play at each position. And despite Darius' slowness, etc, he is the BEST Running Back for the position as it stands today...so he is going no where.

However, as much as we like ANY player...this is about winning and having your best guys on the field. If DW is that man, great. But if not, swap him out for the better player.

The initial burst of speed was what impressed me about this run. He had so much detirmination just to get that first down, and it looked like nothing was going to stop him from at least doing that. The other fifty yards were just a bonus, because there were no defenders in sight after he beat that first guy.

The thing that went through my mind:
OH MY GOD, HE MIGHT ACTUALLY PULL IT OFF AND GO ALL THE WAY!!!

That would have been amazing.

You know, beyond that play, I was impressed with Brady's quickness and evasiveness overall against SC. One of his weaknesses has been an inability to step up in the pocket and avoid rushers coming from behind. Against SC, he made a few nifty escapes. He'll need to keep working on this to succeed against bigger, faster players at the next level.
