Though it will be next week before a matchup is finalized, one of the teams for the 11th annual Mobile bowl game will be filled by a Mid-American Conference school, either Central Michigan (10-2) or Temple (9-3), fulfilling a contract the GMAC Bowl has with the league. The other spot was originally to be filled by the No. 9 Atlantic Coast Conference team, but the ACC, with only seven bowl-eligible teams, will not be able to meet the contract requirements.

I'm fine with watching ND playing again. regardless, I like this GMAC bowl more than Little caesar's bowl

I think they would decline. I know the Eaglebank Bowl has been mentioned as opposed to this one, and one more than I'm forgetting.

The way I see it, we should never lose to Temple or Central Michigan....

Temple did beat Navy and Central Michigan beat Michigan State. We have a lot more to lose from this bowl than to gain. Pass

And who would be calling plays and coming up with an offensive game plan?

Not only did we fire our HC, but we also got rid of the OC. I don't think Ianello or anyone else has any experience calling plays.

I would love to see Tate and Clausen play one more time (and hopefully a lot more!) but I have to agree that we have much to to lose than gain in this situation.

Let Tate call the plays.

You sound ready. I hope you can start instead of Sergio or Gray.

I hope the team doesn't play in a bowl game. I heard Kyle McCarthy speaking on it yesterday and, as he said, it's going to be hard without everybody on board. It is a huge problem for numerous reasons:

1. The game and preperation for the game will fall during finals week.
2. You'd be asking many players who do not see playing time to forgo Christmas vacation at home with family to play in a third class bowl game.
3. This team is not going to win any acclaim for beating a MAC team.
4. Conversely, this team is sure as hell going to gain a lot of criticism for losing to a MAC team and finishing with a 6-7 record. The media would have a damn field day and, though I don't care what the media "reports" (as if the media ever reports anymore), we don't need more potential recruits reading articles dragging ND through the mud.
5. There's no money to be made for the school in any of these bowl games. At least not money that would mean anything to Notre Dame.

I think JS needs to immediately move to retain Rob Ianello long term and give him the task of holding on to as many recruits as possible. From there, I think JS needs to use all the athletic department's resources to find the new coach and he should probably bring Lou Holtz into the equation. It's been mentioned before and I'll second it: Lou Holtz should be made director of football operations.

you guys are fucking retarded... who do you think we are? we are not going to lose the gmac bowl! yea sure we lost to navy and uconn, but lets realize that navy is actually good nowadays and that uconn has a similar season to us losing all games to teams by a td or less. against navy we were looking ahead to pitt, and against uconn we were fucked because everyone was busy crying because they knew charlie might get fired. the point is, now the players can get over weis, and just be happy to all play together one last time. clausen, tate, and the offense will score at will. the defense should be ready like they were for nevada. i would expect to see a slaughter, and we will.

That win against Nevada was a fluke, now don't get me wrong, I'm not saying for sure we wouldn't win it again, but you are forgetting two things:

1. Nevada's offense was not in sync at all. They ended the season setting a record for having three 1,000 yard rushers in a single season. There is no way we would repeat a performance defensively like that again.

2. That game was played in the opening week of the season in Notre Dame stadium under an entirely different set of circumstances. (Our HC was still there, all of the adversity that concluded the season wasn't)

I think in the end I'd rather pass on a bowl game this year because the negatives FAR outweigh any benefit.

As for JC and GT, you'll get to see them on Sundays from now on quite a bit.

Don't start that shit again! The past couple of years should cure everyone on saying "the Irish should not or will not lose to so-and-so"!

Take this for what's it worth (in other words disregard it) but a couple of websites citing--you won't believe this--unnamed sources are saying that the school administration decided no bowl game already.

Again, consider the source: Signs point to no bowl game for Notre Dame - Chicago Breaking Sports

In light of everything going on and the caliber of bowl ND is projected to play in, it wouldn't come as a surprise if the administration nixes the notion. But I'm not taking this report for anything more than speculation with some modicum of possible truth sprinkled in to provide some credibility.

well well just thinking here
Brian Kelly was the coach of Central Michigan. My dad knows him from when he played. so like we go to the GMAC bowl....and maybe if we play CMU than like we'll get on Brians good side and he'll come to us. Or...he'll realize we'll playing them and than come and coach us against his old team....I'm just saying lets look at all the options. lol

I don't think they will go to oa bowl. They were saying they don't want any players getting hurt who might get drafted.

A bowl game could only hurt the draft status of Jimmy and/or Golden. They'd be expected to play awesome against a MAC or WAC team so an awesome performance doesn't help. If they have an off day, their stock will drop. Doesn't make a lot of sense for them. I'd love to see another ND game this year, but I'll completely understand if they opt out.

I don't get this at all. Extra practice. Some fun at the end of a dismal year. Send out Clausen and Tate with some boom boom pow. Real players want to play, as a former player in this sport I have to say, if given the option, I would want to play.

As a player that doesn't see the field unless the 20 rule is in effect you'd want to practice during finals? You'd want to spend part of your Christmas break practicing to play in the Inconsequential.com Bowl?

What good is more practice going to do anyway? We're losing a good portion of the o-line, Tate and Clausen, too. There aren't that many people that the bowl game woudl benefit....and I would prefer that the defensive players get as far away from the current staff and the current scheme as possible!
