If these players are going to benefit from the world class athletic training, top football coaching, free meal-plan and housing, national exposure that is greater than many pro athletes, and a full academic scholarship to a top 20 college in the country (Which they likely wouldn't have gotten into) and the alumni base that comes with that... its reasonable to expect them to finish out the season. Some of these journalists act like they are damn hostages of the colleges.

IMO we've gone a few steps too far on the "pro-player" movement. The line has to be drawn somewhere. This is a team sport at the end of the day.

What do you propose? Pay back part of the scholarship? What’s the penalty to the schools who opt out of bowls at the last minute, like UCLA did?

This. All day long.

You don’t and seemingly never will understand the other side of the argument. I see both sides, but it’s not as clear cut as you try to make it seem. I believe there’s real value in the free education (and all that goes with it). The thing is it’s a great deal for 75-80 of the 85 scholarship players for most teams. It’s not as much of a great deal for players like Kyle Hamilton/etc. I think the NIL changes have the potential to help garner value for the top players, but clearly it’s already getting a bit loose already. I have never been a fan of the player/coach that signs a contract and holds out because of a great season (kinda similar situation-it’s almost a contract situation with scholarships). I’m also not a fan of teams cutting players when they’re not up to the standard they thought they’d get when it was agreed on. I appreciate ND honoring their scholarships and I hate seeing kids get pushed out (not to be confused with honest conversations about future opportunities). I think people should honor their word and perhaps that makes me old fashioned, but it works both ways in my book. Both sides (school/player or team-management/player) need to keep their word and I think it would balance out better. I don’t like the implication of those thinking because I think healthy players should play are somehow not supporting players or their rights.

If a okayed opts out they should repay that year of tuition plus if they aren’t completed with their degree they can pay tuition if they decide to come back and finish it. Sounds petty but no more free lunches.
The Hamilton Kyren opt out shirt more than Kelly leaving for this bowl game and I think with Kelly he doesn’t allow a 21 point collapse. I also think that Kyren knew OK st might hold his game back and hurt his stock. Same for Hamilton. He has missed 6 games and might have come back rusty and impact his image. Chicken shit way out no matter how you slice it. Yeah yeah we all know they want the big bucks to buy mom a decent house etc. is that the situation that Hamilton and Kyrens families are in? For some reason I thought they had better situations back at home. As far a as I’m concerned it’s a chink in the character armor.

Foskey had potential to be a first or second rounder with another season. He might make round 4. It probably 5 or 6. Austin will be round 6 or 7. Don’t expect much from him at the next level. No separation or route running skills with some suspect hands. His physicality doesn’t equal his size. He’s been more trouble than he was worth.
