About time. While I don't know know the guy on a personal level, he is probably a decent individual who means well and did a great job dealing with the mess from Thompson. He is just not a very good D1 college coach. His teams always seemed to under achieve. Last year was especially disappointing considering he returned 12 players from a team that competed for a MAC championship the year before. The problem was really a lack of team discipline, chemistry, and quality players which is baffling considering that we are located in Indiana. I do wish him well in whatever he decides to do after this as no one wants to see people lose their jobs, but I applaud Ball State for making a move. They fired the old football coach and the new one has been doing great so far so lets hope they get it right with this new Basketball coach.
You kind of nailed it.
Billy was a nice guy. Multiple times I ran into him at community functions, restaurants, etc.
But not much has been coming to this BSU team. I was certain this team would only get better once Jauwan "Wanny" Scaife did very well as a freshman, but they seemed to just get worse. This year they got waxed whenever they faced good teams. Lost to IU 101-53 and Butler by 14 and even Indiana State by 20.
I would just like to see a team that competes for the MAC on a consistent basis. Get us to be the #5 team in Indiana (behind IU, ND, Butler, and Purdue). That'd be nice.
Good luck to coach Taylor and his family though.
