Colin Cowherd on ESPN radio just called Notre Dame the Bermuda Triangle of football. Great Athletes go there and disappear. He ripped Clausen saying he does not look look the part of a big time QB- hes listed at 6'3'' 212 but says he looks more like Todd merenovich. As a #1 overall recruit, he is somewhat disappointed. Stafford looks the part, Sanchez looks the part, Tebo looks the part and he named a few more. He didnt count out Clausens ability to mature though.

He stated that recruiting services are usually spot on. But then he went on to say that he thinks ND gets a "kiss" from the recruiting services so that ND fans (because it is a national team) go out and subscribe to the recruting websites and magazines. He then proceeded to say they have had top 10 recruting classes for a few years now but where have the top 10 NFL picks been? He said he sees USC, Miami, VT, etc..., but not ND.

He does love USC but he was high on ND 2 years ago also. He seems to keep it real. He blamed nothing on coaching.

Food for thought, Think about it.

I heard this rant as well. I agree about JC size. He looks smaller than listed. I live in Atlanta and every fan down here thinks there team does not get a fair shake for the recruiting services or Espn for highlights. IE...Moreno from UGA leaping over the guy this weekend..that was sick, but ESPN failed to show it on some shows. I know a lot of people are going to say about the recruiting services that is BS. Look at Cierre Wood for example, but from an outside standpoint there could be some truth to what he said.

We have had some success recruitng, not long enough to see them in the NFL. BUT long enough to see a quality product on the field. Instead we almost lose to SDSU, I hope this weekend is better. If not, it is obvious these top recruiting classes aren't getting coached up. We may need Skip Holtz, before someone else goes after him.

The Moreno hurdle over the defender was the nastiest play I have ever seen a back make! However, ESPN gave it no love. I don't know why, but it seems like ESPN has never really given UGA any love.

I agree. ND probably gets a little more "attention" paid to their recruits than most because we are a national team and are more likely to subscribe to recruiting services. I don't like Cowherd, but he usually makes valid points. There is only one way to shut this type of chatter up, though. That is to produce on the field! Go Irish!

Colin Cowherd is a moron, I dont listen to his show anymore because of his propensity to make stuff up on the fly.

Are people really shocked ESPN said something negative about ND? As long as ND has an NBC contract, they will not get anything but negativity from anyone at ESPN except Lou and Kirk.

Espn gives ND love, look how much they are covering a team that was 3-9 last year. ND Basketball is on the national game at the time. Any publicity is good publicity unless you are Bobby Brown.

Cowterd has a very high opinion of himself... I rarely listen to him anymore... he has a history of talking down about our football program.

We have a history of giving him plenty of reasons to talk down about our football program.

cowherd is the same as any other radio talk show host, they talk about what will move the meter and pissed off fans move the meter, 2 years ago he was suckin charlie off and now we have a bad year and its "we'll never be good again" all hosts spin things to make them feel like they know it all and to get better ratings, he's a personality not an expert by any means. he gets paid 2 make the phone ring and people always call in. i listen to his show because its entertaining but i take everything he says with a grain of salt because he'll flip flop in a heartbeat as soon as we're winning games watch and see.

The athletes didnt go anywhere they are just young, we struggled against sdsu and we suck, osu struggles against ohio and oh they'll be fine they were just keeping some things tucked away from usc they'll come out with some left hooks for usc and they'll play competitive. its all agendas gotta pump the usc osu game for this week, thats why its all bs.

I think we have nothing to lose here people. It's when you play like that, you can achieve things which people said were impossible. My coach used to say, "it's better to play like a starving dog, than a satisfied pig". I hope Lou can instill some hunger in our boys this Saturday.

Like what?

Let's see, in no particular order: 3-9, loss to Navy, 2 blowout BCS losses in a row, no bowl victories in longer than I can count, an African American coach being fired after only 3 years instead of the requisite 5 yrs given by every other ND coach in history (totally agreed w/ the firing myself), no NC's in 20 years, h.s. senior announces his committment at college HOF after stepping out of a Hummer limo, a coach hired then fired because he lied on his resume, etc. etc.

This would be one thing if it were Ball State, but this is NOtre Dame, and people love to shoot us down. Comes with the territory...

I have to agree with his statements...the last few years players have consistantly underachieved at ND. I do think the current class of soph/juniors will have some first round picks but no were near what should come out of these classes!!!!!

I have been a fan for 45 years.... one of my children graduated from ND.... so my perspective is different than fans looking at just the last 1 1/2 years.... I like to see the good not just the warts...
keeps me in a better mood... our teams young players will improve with every game over the next few years... things are looking up in my eyes.

I agree one million percent. I'm just answering your question from an outsider's point of view. An outsider, like a radio host who is supposed to be subjective, could say all of those things and have some solid arguments. I don't agree with some of them, but you can't argue with 3-9. But yeah, things are difinitely looking up...

Just how good do we expect, winning mid-level bowl games or National Championships. I for 1 want ND back to beat EVERYONE and winning National Championships.

It's his opinion, I don't like it, but in all I might would agree with him on the notre dame fan base and subscribers. It is on the filed where a player proves himself and hopefully within the next few years notre dame will be a national contender with it's "SO-CALLED" overrated recruits.

Several years ago I would have been quick to call him a jerk or worse, but not everyone can be a notre dame fan and they are going to make the sports columns- good or bad.

GO IRISH !!!!!!
