Any update on Barkley? Him sitting out improves our odds. I'm no doctor, but how long does it take for a separated shoulder to heal? Don't you just pop the shoulder right back in just like in movies and everything is ok???

I think it depends on the severity, what shoulder and your toughness. I seriously think Roethlisberger would have started for the Steelers today if it wasn't for his dislocated rib, he definitely would have been limited though. I'm not sure if Barkely is that anxious to play through the pain or if he would even be able to. But he has the rest of the week and could come back, but he would probably be pretty limited.

That's a dislocated shoulder. Separated shoulders are different. Separated shoulder is an injury between the clavicle and shoulder. It's more of a ligament injury really. I separated my shoulder on a similar hit a few years ago and I had limited movement in my shoulder for a few weeks and couldn't have thrown a football or anything during that. Remember, a separated shoulder is what cost Sam Bradford so much of his last year at Oklahoma.

Depending on the grade of the separation, he could play this week. I'm no doctor either. here's a decent summary if you're interested in reading up:

I'd be very surprised if he plays even if cleared. Yes, Lame Kitten wants to spoil our party, but anyone close to MB has to be telliing him to chill out and wait for the draft. He'll be either the 1 or 2 QB. No need to put yourself at risk with very little to gain. If I'm Kitten, I'm rolling with Wittek anyway. Give you the youngster a shot building his legend.

I would much rather have a 'full' team in U$C to play than second or turd string from them. ND's defense is simply stout and confident. The defense has done nothing short of just playing hard and wrapping up.

I truly believe our offense will show something a little more different against U$C as well. Golson has proven that he can carry the offense and with that, I think Kelly will incorporate some more plays ~ we'll see.

Unlike the Irish, U$C only has three or four play-makers.

Kiffin may want him to play, but why is he going to risk it? He already got brought down to Earth with the unfinished business he came back for. Now he's injured going into his last home game. Sure he may want to play his last home game but he's risking further hit to his draft stock...again. There isn't a solid reason for him playing and risking his health aside from pride, Kiffin, and his last home game. I don't see him playing but that's just my opinion, it wouldn't be the first time I was incorrect.

I had this injury in high school my senior year on pretty much the exact same hit. I could have played the following week but would have had to endure pretty decent amount of paint throwing each pass. Had I gotten hit again in the same fashion my shoulder would have been hurt for half the season. I would guess he won't play.

True dat. I think BK will end up assuming MB is not going to go. Diaco, I'm betting, will dial up several early blitz plays to say hello to the youngster. I honestly don't care one way or another. Our D is better than anything they've seen, and their D sucks. Irish Roll 27-10.

I saw them both play twice last year when they were redshirt freshman...once at the spring game and once at their final scrimmage before the season started. Both played really poorly both times. I was unimpressed with either, but again, this was over a year ago, and QBs do improve (see: Golson, Everett, and hell Jimmy C as a freshman).

I personally like Kessler better, just because he can scramble more and seems to be the 'gamer' type. Think Tommy Rees with much more mobility. Wittek has the bigger arm and is much more of the prototype of USC QBs, and he's got some game and could be a real player in the future. But right now, not having Barks for that game is a real plus for ND, no doubt, despite his penchant for picks. He's still far ahead of the other QBs, and with our pass rush and ability to stop the run, having a brand new QB starting his first game is NOT good for USC...

I agree. Kiffin has done so much to keep his injury report close to the vest. Why would he volunteer that now?
