I for one am excited about how recruiting is going. The Irish have endured so many injuries this year I was afraid theyd lose more recruits then they have. I think the Utah game was the turning point, I started seeing heart and toughness, and I really havent seen it since Father Lou was coaching. Even if we come up short on Huggins or French, I believe BK will get kids in here who will work their butt off and improve from year to year. I consider this season a great success, with how Weiss nearly took the Irish back to the stone age, and know BK is getting kids to opt out of committments, and choose ND, maybe next season ND is back in the BCS, then 2012 National Champions.

First and foremost, welcome to what I would consider the premier ND recruiting fan board. Secondly, let's not get ahead of ourselves. I remember when Charlie first came aboard and put up a BCS bowl game season and recruited his butt off (not literally, figuratively). I really want all of that to happen, however, I have gotten my hopes up too much with this team to think too far ahead. Great optimism though.

Times are a changing for our Irish. All great programs go through tough periods and lord only knows we have had alot of adversity. The thing that makes me so optimistic is that we have a coaching staff that I believe in, we have learned to fight through adversity and we are starting to play good football. After years of medicore seasons, we are starting to see a shift in attitude in our team. These kids are fighters and are getting better and better. I think the BK coaching staff has done an excellent job at breaking down the team and building them back up. No longer is there a sense of entitlement amongst players. If you wanna play.., you have to be the best one out there to get PT period. It doesn't matter who you are..., you wanna play you have to work your butt off. We have seen young kids step in when our stars fell to injury and we have developed into a pretty decent team. Over time, this team is going to be good..., really really good.

I can't remember a time where we showed we could run the football with Power, and Defensively dominate like we have..... I am excited!

I feel different than I have in the last decade or so. I say yes. But the biggest caveat is Wait Until NSD.

Running hard out of the spread is ingenious. There is no finesse in what Hughes was doing to USC last week. It's very possible that ND could be experiencing a true reawakening and I'm SUPER EXCITED. Nasty D-line and O-line play in combination with an at least competent QB is a recipe for a BCS bowl appearence. But we need to see more than Dayne Crist or Tommy Rees to see a national championship. I have no faith in Crist based on the two times I saw him in person (spring game and Stanford) and the ridiculous decisions he makes on the field. He's a good kid, but I dont think he's cut out for Kelly's spread. Im really interested in seeing Hendrix and Golson. Their development may be the last piece in the ressurection of this program.

This situation has a different feel than with Charlie, I wanted Weis to succeed and liked the guy but 'this coach' can get it done. My stance on getting football players into the university has not changed, they need football players first and model students second. Dont get me wrong I do not want what the SEC does but the players needed must come or Kelly will do well but he wont get the results everyone hopes for. Its a fine line that must be walked but if Notre Dame is to return to greatness they must get athletes across the board. You can get in because your a good athlete and then let the Notre Dame process establish you as a student and a man. Its how it was done in the past. Dummies-no, bad guys-no, knock you in the mouth football players-yes. Charlie tried to do it with a few 4/5 star guys but didnt have the shock troops across the board that is needed. They need to get those guys in if they can handle a students life at the university. Once again it all comes down to what the ADM will allow. I think Kelly has proven he can control the football player type guys and that is where the concern is with the ADM. I think they ( ADM ) wants to do it but also want to keep hands on control that has been lost in the past. One thing for sure-they must start dominating again or they will have to turn to a conference, and that is something they dont want to do in my opinion.

+1

This team made great strides this year. Many things are encouraging. CW left the team with a lot more depth then Ty did, so I don't expect a 2007 style fall-off during Kelly's first few years.

However, there are still more unknowns than knowns.

1)Our offense. One Robert Hughes drive does not a power running game make. We have an almost guaranteed QB controversy next year. We might need to replace Floyd at WR. Cierre Wood will be our featured back as opposed to the lightning to Hughes' or Allens' thunder. We lose, arguably, our best O-linemen (Stewart) and, possibly, our automatic kicker.

2) Our coaching staff. One of the biggest things that hurt Weis was continuous turmoil in his coaching staffs. Our D had to learn a new defense virtually every year, and never really mastered any of them. As we become more successful, our assistant coaches will become more attractive targets for schools with head-coaching vacancies. Kelly has worked with some guys for a long time now, will he be able to replace them if we do lose them?

3) Our recruits. I'm very excited about this class. There are some special players in there and a lot of very solid players that may by in to the program. But it's not the type of class that guarantees anything. A lot of 3 stars with a handful of 4 stars isn't bad by any means, but there's nobody in the class you can really point to as a guy who should ideally be an impact guy next year. Which is not to say that a player like Golson or Daniels or Tuit can't or won't play right away, just that the program is probably better off if they don't have to play right away.

I think there are holes in every return to glory plan......but I do feel better in the fact we are playing Solid D with an offensive minded coach.

Ps Since the beginning of my membership here I have wanted to factually put the words Glory and Hole into a post......so I would like to thank everyone that helped make this possible.
