This team hasn't won a World Series since 2000 and choked a 3-0 lead in the ALCS two years ago.

Honestly, does anyone care about them other than ESPN? I remember when Johnny Damon signed with the Yankees. You would have thought JFK had been shot. The WORLD stopped spinning.

Baseball's World Champions reside right here in the Midwest, the Land of Lincoln, the City of Broad Shoulders. 35th and Shields, South Side of Chicago. The White Sox.

The Yankees are covered in dust.

As much as I hate to say it, the Yanks are still relevant b/c almost as many people love 'em as hate 'em. They drew over 4 million fans last year to the ballpark. That's ridiculous. And they have fans everywhere. I lived in Ireland for 6 months my junior year of college, I saw people (not American tourists, Irish citizens) wearing Yankee gear. Many of them didn't even know the rules of baseball, but they knew the Yanks. You either love 'em or you hate 'em, and teams like that never fall off the media's radar for long b/c they generate ratings/sales, even when they aren't that good.

Just like the Cowboys in football and the Lakers in basketball. And as much as I HATE even more to make this analogy, just like some college football team I know....

Just like Paterno, they will rise again from the dead....

Living and working in the middle of Yankeeland, it does get very annoying (esp. for a Phillies fan). In the office, the day after the Yankees were eliminated, you could have heard a pin drop around me. It was like a family member died.

But by far, the worst are Mets fans and that oh so annoying bright orange/blue combo, reminds me of UFlorida...

Think of it this way, Yankees are to scUM, as Mets are to MichSt.

I can identify with Mets fans because they're second in their own town.

But that might not be happening much longer here in Chicago. Seems the Cubs BASEBALL fans (they're different than Cub fans) actually realize how inept their management is and they're staying away.

Still bus loads of people from Iowa and trainloads from the suburbs will sell enough seats to have the Tribune Company laughing all the way to the bank.

As for the Yankees, just keep writing those checks. They're relevant in winter and the regular season, but the Diamondbacks, Angels, Marlins, Red Sox and White Sox have all won World Series more recently than they have. They're not built for the postseason the way they used to be.

.

Imagine my pain, marooned here in S Florida, where Yankee and Mets fans outnumber Marlins fans, and there also tons of the Orange/Blue Gators fans.

There ARE Marlin fans??? Are they still in MLB or have they been sent down to AAA? Their entire payroll for '06 is what Larry Brown makes in 4 months.....

Just an odd franchise. The youngest team to 2WCs (since expansion) and two complete dismantlings.....

GO PHILS!!!

I've heard reports that there are hundreds of Marlins fans in south Florida!

6 million people in the region, beautiful weather, and the Marlins get less than 10,000 fans for opening day.

You're right, it's a wierd franchise.

Death, taxes and the Atlanta Braves. If they stop blowing saves, they're going to be back in first before too long.

And how 'bout former Domer Aaron Heilman shutting down the Skankees to take game 1 of the Interleague Series

And as for the Braves Jiggs, without Leo Mazzone rocking away on the bench the Braves are toast. That pitching will fall apart.

Quit picking on my Yanks guys...

Gotta give the Boss some credit, he's a business genius, he bought the Yanks for 10 million now they're worth about a billion. He started his own Yankee TV network(YES) a few years back and it has been a huge success. At least he puts all that money back into his ballclub. I remember reading a few years back that the Brewers made the largest profit in baseball at around 40mil...the cubs usually make the most profit wise, and they're too cheap to even go out and sign guys...

We gotta lose Torre though, he hasn't won us a world series in years, he's too soft if u ask me...time for some new blood...

ARod has been a bust too, i don't care how many MVP's the guy wins, get it done in the postseason and big spots

sounds like we're getting bobby abreu so that should help us...Hopefully we can snag Zito

I'm gonna cry all night for you and your Yankees. The horror of not winning a championship "in years" as you've said about Joe Torre. All I can say is...1948... :( One of these days, we'll smell a championship. Maybe.

"Two on, one out for A-Rod here in the bottom of the 8th. And a hard hit ground ball to Reyes, 6 to 4 to 3, Double Play! And the inning is over, and we're going to the bottom of the 8th with the Mets up 4-3."

Gotta say, as much as I hate the Yankees, seeing that actually made me feel a little bad for him somewhere in the cold black heart I have for anything in pinstripes. He is gonna get killed here by Yankees fans for the next month.

Gotta agree with my bro here Queens. As Indians fans, we came within 3 outs of a World Series Championship and lost to the Marlins. Not since 48 have we had a winner in Cleveland, but came darn close a bunch of times (above mentioned series, John Elway and "the drive", Ernest Byner and the "fumble", Red right 48 (Brian Sipe interception against the Raidddezzzzz), Jordan's" the shot" against the Cavs over Craig Ehlo) I've never been a part of a winner yet, so when you say that you haven't had a championship "in years", understand where we are coming from.

NOT SO FAST MY FRIEND! The Bravos are NOT going to win the NL East this year and hear's why:

1) Their "worst" pitching staff in a LLLOOOONNNNGGG time

2) the departure of pitching guru/stout ND fan/rocker extrordinare, Leo Mazone!!!

Hate to say it, but it does look like the NY Mess have the best chance to win (on paper). Unfortunately, you can't root AS HARD against these Mets, as one could the '86 version, w/ the likes of the snorting triplets (Gooden, Hernendez and STRAWberry) and esp. Gary Carter.

Jigga, your streak of valid points have come to a screeching halt. The Braves are done. Their BP is just ONE of their problems in a sea of a many.

how'd a Mets-Braves comment get turned into Yanks-Sox?

And be fair, the Yankees may have all those rings, but they also have the dubious distinction of suffering the worst post-season collapse of any team in any sport in history, and it was at the hands of the Red Sox no less. Not saying that one postseason makes up 20 championships or whatever the difference is between Boston and the Bronx, but I do think it makes up for a pretty good number of them.

Yep. Looks all but over.

The Mets are good. They're really good. I think they can take anyone in the mighty AL in the World Series.

The NL sucks. There is the Mets and not much else. The Braves are sunk. They got within 5 games and were .500, but they're done. In a couple of years, they'll be back again.
