I just finished my first playthrough. I chose the "synthesis" ending.

Right after the ending finished, I was a little confused. Then, the more I thought about it, the more upset I became, especially when I found out that despite all the choices you make, the endings are all very similar.

Also, the enormous plot holes introduced by just the ending are pretty annoying. For example, the ME games all tell you that destroying the gates will essentially wipe out everything in the system where the gate is located. If true, that means that each ending causes you to commit genocide on a scale the Reapers would dream of. Undoubtedly though, it seems that the plot requires this not to be the case.

Another plot hole regards how is earth actually saved? The earth is largely destroyde by the reaper invasion, even in the good endings. With the gate destroyed, you probably have millions of aliens (along with millions/billions) of humans in the Solar system. How do you feed and provide for them all? It seems everyone at earth for the final battle is condemned to long, painful existences, if not slow starvation.

All this said, it was a pretty good game. And even with my complaints, I'm sad the game is over. It was quite the epic space opera.

it was a great game and i'm hoping for more games that take place in the mass effect universe.

theres a lot of theories about the ending just being a dream, etc. etc. a lot of people upset about it. but it was such a loved game i think it would have been impossible to have an ending everyone is happy with.
