I think the guy is a jackass. I'm sick and tired of hearing about him and how he's going to break the legitimate home run record. I hope he breaks his arm and can't swing a bat ever again right as he comes one HR from tying the record. The dude took steroids. I mean, who's head grows in size when they're 40 years old? He's a cheater and I cannot stand him. He used to be one of my favorite players but now he's my least favorite person. Right above Rosie O'donnel.

What are your opinions?

I can't stand the guy. Between his cheating and his cocky attitude...he's an idiot. Didn't he admit to the cream and the clear?

I'm not much of a baseball fan, but he is a human growth hormone experiment. He will break the record, but will he live 10 more years? Who knows.

I don't want him to break the record. Hank was such a better, more complete player than him. I also hope he breaks an elbow one run shy of the record.

I want him to break the record, because it will continue to demonstrate what a joke MLB is these days.

He is going to break the record and if it is not in SF he will get booed. He is a total prick to everyone on his team, the media, and most of the free world. He is just going to hold the record for 5-6 years before A-Rod takes it and makes Bonds a footnote. Bonds is the posterchild for HGH. His head is ENORMOUS. In my mind he is the baseball version of Urban Meyer.

On the other hand he is a great player that almost hit 400 a few years ago. If he would have not gone to roids he would have gone down as one of the greatest players of all time and his legacy would have been like Ty Cobb. Since he did roids he is a joke and prety much a miserable person. That pretty much sums up my thoughts of him.

Well, he is 0 for his last 21...I would love the pressure to build up so much so that he goes 0 for his next 20. Deep down I realize that he is going to break the record, and maybe that is better for baseball and its fans because then we can just move on from this damn circus, but I really do wish that for some reason he just gets so amped up that he can't hit more than 2 homers the rest of the season. I think its pretty evident that his body is just breaking down beneath him since he can't even play 4 days in a row, and when he does play multiple games in a row his batting average sinks. Heres hoping that nature wins out and this guy just collapses unable to swing or even run and the "greatest hitter of this generation" is stung with the fact that he came so close.

I'm not a Barry Bonds fan at all. But I'm a avid baseball and to say he teammate dislike him is false. Yes him and Jeff Kent had a falling out. But take it from me, Jeff Kent is a jerk also. The Giants are one of the top draws in baseball. You know the Higher up loves that.
So stop the Barry bashing. It all about money.

He's an A-hole and he cheats! He admitted using the creame & the clear, but said he thought it was flaxseed oil. We're supposed to believe that, huh? Flaxseed oil? Please.

I can't wait for A-Rod to beat the record. It should have been Ken Griffey Jr., but going to the Reds seemed to trigger injury after injury. He should have stayed in Seattle.

The guy had 3 lockers away from everyone for his trainer and nutritionist or something. I have NEVER heard a thing about him being a good teammate. Kent is probably a jerk too but Bonds is worse b/c he is the superstar of the team. Have you read Game of Shadows? It has interviews with former teammates and they all say he is a prick and he is also a cheater.

I think it was last night on ESPN that Pedro Gomez reported that he was in the locker room of the Giants before the Cubs game and Barry came in three hours before the game and went to the trainers and complained about being tired and worn down so they scratched him from the game, then Gomez went on to say that several players came to him and spoke off the record that they don't like how Bonds get this special treatment and how they all are beat up and tired and would love a day off, but they continue to go out and play hard even when they are hurting. It just goes to show you how self-centered Bonds really is, if he can't play more that a couple days at a time what benefit is he to his team? If he is a spot starter does he really deserve such a large paycheck that the team could use to bring in better younger players that can contribute on a daily basis? Bonds is there only for Bonds, make no mistake about it. He is and will continue to be a selfish person and no, I'm not just saying that because I don't like him, but because his actions warrant such.

Here is the problem with all of this that nobody seems to discuss. I love baseball. I grew up watching games and listening to games on the radio with my dad. It was one of the things my dad and I really enjoyed doing together. If you remember the scene from City Slickers where the guys talk about their best days ever, while my best day ever was when I was 24-25 years old and I took my dad to a Reds baseball game at old Riverfront Stadium. We re-traced things we did when I was a kid and he would take me to a Reds game. It was a wonderful day. We did not know at the time my dad was sick but later that year he passed away from lung cancer. He never got to meet my children.

So how does this relate to Barry Bonds and the tragedy that Bonds' story is for the game. Well, my son is now a big baseball fan. I love passing down old stories of players and watching games with my son. He's only 9 but he is really getting into the sport. He's only 9 and all he hears about Bonds and the Greatest Record in All of Sports is steroids. How do I explain all of this to him? How do I enjoy what should be a wonderful summer for basball with him? How do I get back the feeling and enjoy the memories I had with my dad?

Did Barry take steroids? I don't care anymore. Do I like Barry Bonds? I don't care anymore. Do I wish I could share the game with my 9 year son like my dad shared it with me. Yes. Can I? Unfortunately, No.

:twocents: The whole Bonds deal is a sticky situation. Of course he cheated but who knows how many other players that aren't ass holes cheated and are good teammates and just didn't get the media attention. If you had to hear every day that you were an asshole and cheated how easy going would you be? Bud Selige diserves to have a cheater break, argubaly the most recognized sports achivement in all of sports. He shouldn't have looked away when Sosa and McGuire supposedly saved baseball in the summer of 98

Well as much as I dislike Bonds, he is hands down the more complete ball player over Hank.

Again hate to defend him but he is 40 some years old and is still the best hitter on that miserable team, so if he needs a day off I don't see a problem with it. Bonds has always been about himself and he doesn't care what people.

My A-hole of the week so far goes to Sheffield another guy that admitted to using the cream and clear but insists he didn't know what it was. This piece of shit had the nerve this week to call Joe Torre a racist and that he treats black players differently. Gary why is that you are such a great hitter but you have been on so many teams over the years? Because you are a club house cancer! Hmm.... Torre has been with the Yanks for a while now and why is that you are the first person to come forward and bring these charges. Funny I dont see Jeter, Bernie Williams, Dwight Gooden, Darryl Strawberry, Charlie Hayes saying that he is a racist. Why is that Sheff, Torre went above and beyond last year to play you in the playoffs last year and you did nothing.

My parents thought so much of Hank Aaron they named me after the man, and I feel very honored by that fact...... so what do you think I feel about this whole Bonds mess??

Hank was the man, and I have to disagree with SillyIrish about Bonds being more complete of a player.

IMO Hank Aaron is one of the most underrated players in American Sports History... Man's owns the HR and RBI record... was a stolen base threat... and a man of great character... He and Stan the Man always seem to get over looked in the whole greatest of all time discussions when both at least deserve mention IMO

Bonds being old and wanting and "deserving" a day off? Well, I guess I'd have to say that Cal Ripkin Jr. didn't need a day off. He was the best player on his team, old, and one of the classiest players I have ever seen.
I'm just waiting for Bonds' roid rage against the reporters to happen. That would be the only thing I would watch Bonds do at this point.

Fellas I'm not a Bonds fan but it's hard to ignore these numbers, which apparently don't have this seasons stats computed into them yet. The numbers are fairly similar except for hits to BB and stolen bases. Bonds did win 8 gold gloves to Aaron's three and he has 7 MVP's to Aaron's 1.

Is Bonds a piece of garbage? Sure he is. But these numbers dont lie and like it or not these numbers arn't going anywhere.

Even Ripken took a day off because the streak ended before he retired.

You're right, everyone needs a day off, even Cal, but I think the point he is making is that Cal, a record setting player who will go down in history as one of the legends, wasn't only out there for Cal, taking days off at a time in order to rest up so he could bolster better numbers than other players. Cal was a team player who ultimately cared about the success of his team more than his personal success.
