QueensNY said:Weis has said that TE's unlike other positions really don't improve their draft status with another year of college ball. I'm sure Weis will welcome him back with open arms if he decides to come back. I have a feeling he may come back, but he has nothing to prove he'll be a day one draft pick(even though this is a deep draft for TE's) and he has his degree..
Vince Young said:I normally can't stand the thought of guys leaving college after only 3 years for the NFL. But in Fasano's case... TE is not an easy position to play, and there's only so many years of punishment your body can take. His stock is fairly high right now, so he may just want to take the money and run, and I wouldn't blame him if he did.
That said, though, I hope he comes back!
Agreed!! He's had a great year and I don't thnk another year, even if it was great, would increase his NFL worth that much. The risk-reward ratio is not favorable for him.NDgettysburg said:I think he's gone......from the media session on Saturday:
On the process on determining whether he will return for a fifth year of eligibility...
"Using my resources here, Coach Weis and my parents. I think that's the best resources I can use to determine what is the best decision for my family and make a decision after the bowl. I can go back and talk to Jeff Faine and guys like Dan Stevenson and Mark LeVoir who stayed a fifth year."
Sounds like a very evasive/careful answer which I think means he's heavily favoring the draft.
Domer95 said:BINGO QUEENS!!! Someone, I think Haden, mentioned this. He said that he talked to NFL 'people' and they said that Antnee is projected as a 2nd rounder and that TE's don't really improve their status w/ another year...SO, IMHO, WHY LEAVE?? Stay for one more year, get a NC, enjoy another year of CJ's burgers, Macri's mugs, 'Backer Beauties and then go pro. You're only young once!! Hell, maybe he can even finaggle (sp??) his way into Social Dance so he can 'be like Matt'
All depends on the need of the teams selecting -- if you want a TE that can run block, pass block and catch he will go as the #1 TE. If you want a WR wearing a TE number then Mercedes Lewis will go as #1 TE and Fasano will drop down to 4-ish.scooper said:Depending on who comes out, he may only be about the fourth TE taken, but this year that could still mean a second round selection. TE is a tough position at which to improve stock. It's not like the scouts don't know about him yet. If he leaves, it's not a bad choice. He will have his degree. This was his fourth year in school. I wish him luck. As Bengals fan, I'd love to see him in Cincy. TE is the missing piece to their offensive puzzle.
leppycole said:I want Fasano to stay, I am not sold on carlson yet. Couple of reasons - His mobility is limited, blocking is par, and I know that I have never seen him break a tackle or sell out for a catch. If you remember he missed two consecutive blocking assignments against syracuse. His upside is his size, but he looks like he is going through the motions out there some times.
scooper said:Mobility limited? He's actually more athletic than Fasano. Weis was even quoted as saying NFL scouts are already asking about him and some see more upside in him than in Fasano.
leppycole said:I'm not sure which Carlson scoop and Jigga are watching. I saw him catch 7 balls this year for a total of 56 yards. 22 of those yards was a TD in the Purdue game - nice catch, but he was wide open. Seriously, Fasano leaving would be a major loss in my opinion. How you think he is more athletic than Fasano is confusing. Do you watch the games? Here is a question - You are an NFL owner and you need a reliable TE - your choices are Fasano and Carlson - who would you pick? I know it would only take me a second to pick Fasano.
06ntlchmps said:we're deep enough at TE to lose fasano and have him as an example of yet another player we sent up. i love how hard he plays (and that he's italian) but to have him go would not be the difference between another pointless bcs game and the nc.
