Yeah, he was on campus yesterday with his family. I assumed it was to make his commitment.

The coach has reported to Sampson at II that Nuss committed, but no word from Nuss himself.

On Power Hour, he said that he would like a shot at playing DT. I believe that he has played more years at DT than he has on the OL. GREAT NEWS!!!

That would be great just to have another guy on board that can play DT if needed, can never have enough bodies there.

I think I read somewhere a while ago that it wouldn't be surprising if he committed to the Irish on short notice.. it might have been Rivals' master-list, I'm not certain.

But I never gave it much thought, so it was a surprise. I hadn't followed this guy's recruitment one bit.

It's good to know he has experience at DT. He's the last 4 star offensive tackles. Hopefully we'll be able to get Ziemba and Miller, also.

I think he will probably end up at DT, which is ok with me. I think he will have great size (after weight training) to play DT. 6'5"+, 300+

They say his run blocking is superior to his pass blocking, so a move to DT could make some sense.

Nuss himself said, ""The probability of me playing defense is very slim". It looks like he probably will be playing offense. With that said, however, "The determining factor, according to Mickey Thompson, Nuss' coach at Stone Bridge High School, was that Nuss convinced the Irish coaching staff he was a Division I prospect at defensive tackle, as well as on the offensive line." Methinks that Nuss is recruited as offensive lineman but also as a contingency plan at DT if Austin, Barksdale, Blackwell, etc. do not come to ND. This situation seems to be an example of Weis & Co. covering all their bases.

The quotes are taken from an article by Jeff Carrol in the South Bend Tribune.

The mammoth 6-foot-5, 275-pound Virginia native was told that he’d have the opportunity to play defense (he projects as a defensive tackle and prefers that side of the ball), but that he’s being slotted as an offensive guard at the moment, and that’s most likely where he would end up.

Ryan O'Leary, BGI.

The merry go round continues.

First team all-district and second team all-region defensive tackle. Honorable mention on offense.

Either way, Nuss sounds like a bit of a project for Weis and Co. Hopefully Mendoza can get him solid and ready to play D1 football.

How ridiculously contradicting is that? Let's just call him a lineman.

Nice post.

Looking at Nuss soley as an OL prospect, he doesn't seem to be of the caliber (size/speed) of James Wilson, Ryan Miller, Lee Ziemba or the other ND offers. But, looking at him as a contingency/depth/project for OG and DT it makes a lot of sense.
