Time to dig through my collection of vinyl and reel-to-reel for another round of memorial listening and making my neighbors wonder "WTF, there he goes again" when I crank the system up to 11 ...

Am I supposed to know who this guy is?

Not necessarily, but give the recordings Bogs and I have posted a listen. Since we're talking about a musician and his recordings that were made 40+ years ago, it's understandable that you're not familiar with Alvin and Ten Years After.

Listen to the seccond vid and I'm sure you'll have the uh huh moment. Guy was all over the place musically. Lot's of blues, rockabilly, a little country if you could call it that. Haven't thought about him in a long long time. Before my time, but certainly appreciated his more popular stuff. We did spend a little time on him in class at IU (History of Rock and Roll - believe it or not, very challenging class).

Bad recording but YJ's right; he could do anything:

<iframe src="http://www.wat.tv/embedframe/283834chuPP3r7687709" frameborder="0" style="width: 320px; height: 180px;"></iframe><div class="watlinks" style="width:WIDTHpx;font-size:11px; background:#CCCCCC; padding:2px 0 4px 0; text-align: center;"><a target="_blank" class="waturl" href="http://www.wat.tv/video/alvin-lee-the-bluest-blues-4krvh_3y7wd_.html" title="Vidéo Alvin Lee - The Bluest Blues sur wat.tv"><strong>Alvin Lee - The Bluest Blues </strong></a> Vidéo <a class="waturl altuser" href="http://www.wat.tv/nutsophelie2" title="Retrouvez toutes les vidéos nutsophelie2 sur wat.tv">nutsophelie2</a> sélectionnée dans <a href="http://www.wat.tv/guide/musique" class="waturl alttheme" title="Toutes les vidéos Musique sont sur wat.tv">Musique</a> </div>

here is something else:

<div style="width: 560px; padding-bottom: 5px; text-align: center;"><a href="http://it.musicplayon.com/play?v=480965" target="_blank"></a></div>
<iframe width="560" height="345" src="http://it.musicplayon.com/embed?html&playerW=560&playerH=345&VID=480965&autoPlay=N&hideLeftPanel=Y" frameborder="0" webkitAllowFullScreen allowfullscreen></iframe>

Again:

Talk about range! I always felt of anyone this guy could do anything. Paradoxically, because he didn't have his "signature lick" he wasn't as well known.

It's a damned shame that more people aren't familiar with his work.

Not to be more of a pissant than usual, but the first video is of Albert, not Alvin Lee. Both were Brits and accomplished guitarists skilled in Rockabilly, Blues and Rock, but one is not "like" the other ...

OOps. That's what happens when you are trying to do something important and work your job too.

Check Jenny, Jenny for the rockabilly sound.
