Here's an interesting topic:

There is a possibility that three, perhaps four of our current players may end up being the best at their positions in school history. This is a cause for some optimism.

Clausen.
Floyd.
Rudolph.
Te'o (huge maybe).

Clausen has the biggest competition, up against the likes of Joe Montana, Terry Hanratty, Angelo Bertelli, Paul Hornung, and Brady Quinn, among others. However, I don't think I've ever seen a Notre Dame quarterback as accurate as Jimmy.

Floyd has the best chance to steal his position's crown. He has an 89% chance to be the greatest. The only player that compares is Jim Seymour (like the most dominant receiver in Notre Dame history), who broke the single game receiving yardage record (276 yards) in his first collegiate game (I think), as well as pulled off such feats as getting 140+ yards in double coverage, and being named an All-American. MF makes the Shark look average, in my opinion. Floyd is a freak, bro!

Rudolph has to fight off the legacy of Ken MacAfee, something he can definitely do with enough production.

Clausen reminds me of Hanratty, both guys really great style and arms. Jim ( not Jimmy to me anymore ) has started to lead. We should embrace this guy he's a hellova triggerman. The season is still young but he deserves national attention with a few more good games. I heard complaints about clock in mich-what he did was how its taught- call T/O if there's a doubt at pivotal time. He gives me the sense he's in control. Montana, Clements, Rice---Clausen, I'd say he is in the discussion and may take his place with 'em. I said over the winter that I thought his real legacy will be in the pros-now I dont know- I'm not sure if I want anyone else in college. Tate/Floyd in my mind are the best set I've seen at Notre Dame, and that says alot. Guy your not talking about is Rudolph he could sit next to Ken McAfee as 3 time ALL America, he's already 1st team frosh AA. By us discussing this look at the players Charlie has brought here. I cant believe people want to fire this guy-man just doesnt make sense to me.

Jimmy may be the all time leader as far as stats go but i do not see him being considered the greatest ever at ND

Michael Floyd very well might be if he is healthy

Rudolph might be the most physically gifted but he needs more touches

When Floyd is done at ND he will go down as the best wide receiver in ND history. I think Te'o will be great once he gets the playing time he deserves. Onto Clausen, he is slowly growing into leadership and becoming a good leader. In the SB Tribune from one of the articles after the MI game Weis spoke to the team and then Clausen jumped in.

Yeah, I think Clausen is better than any QB at ND that I have seen in my young life(Only 28, and already think he is better than Quinn).

Rudolph is a beast who needs to get about 8 catches a game AT LEAST.

Floyd is ridiculous, did you see how high he got on his TD catch Saturday? HOLY CRAP!!!!

Tom Clements, Joe Montana, Rick Mirer, Brady Quinn, Mark Bavarro, Jerome Battis, Reggie Brooks, Ross Browner, Ken MacAfee, Vagas Ferguson, Allen Pinkett, Todd Lyght, Tim Brown, Rahgib Ismael, and yes I see some on the current team and there are many more that I have not mentioned, that I have seen, and certainly would not want to dismiss all those that I did not see, George Gipp, and of course the other Heisman winners: Paul, Hornung, Angelo Bertelli, John Lujack, Leon Hart, John Lattner, John Huarte. The truth is, there have just been a plethora of great players at ND their performances cannot be discounted because of the era in which they played.

I agree 100% the thing that always gets me is that they keep the athlete the same size as in his era, but advance the game. True, the game has become advanced because athletes are bigger, faster, and stronger. If Today's athletes played then, of course they would be stars, except for the fact they would not have some of the equipment, the diets and conditioning that they have now. Because, it wasn't available then, so maybe they wouldn't be as big, fast, or strong, maybe they would be just like the stars of that era. Or vice versa if the players of the past were playing today, perhaps they too are bigger, faster, and stronger.

None of these current receivers compare to Tim Brown or Rocket. Golden is close, but no one else compares. It has a lot to do with the system in place. What happened to Kamara? I am becoming a Floyd fan, but he does not even compare with Tim Brown yet.

Brown chose Notre Dame and played there from 1984–1987, earning the nickname "Touchdown Timmy." In his first year, he set a freshman record with twenty-eight receptions. As a junior, he set a record with 1,937 all-purpose yards. He made the College Football All-America Team twice and won the Heisman Trophy in 1987, becoming the first wide receiver ever to win the award. During that year, he caught 34 passes for 846 yards, returned 34 punts for 401 yards, rushed for 144 yards, and gained 456 yards on 23 kickoff returns. He also scored eight touchdowns. Brown finished his career at Notre Dame with 137 receptions, a school record 5,024 all-purpose yards, and 22 touchdowns.

However, just as in high school, Brown's team achieved limited success, with a 25–21 record over his four seasons, and an 0–2 record in bowl games. In the year after Brown graduated (1988), Notre Dame won the national title.

I think Floyd could easily be better than Brown.
