I still think GA can be very effective in a similar role that he had last year in the 5-10 carries a game range. A lot of the plays with him are obvious (quick pitches, sprint draws, etc) that I'd like to see Kelly/Martin take advantage of that and use him as a diversion more often.

GAIII is the most productive back I have ever seen with such major flaws in his technique (this is probably based on the fact that he is 220 lbs and fast as heck). Maybe that's what the coaches like about him.

Some fast guys--like George--don't seem to understand that they are only faster than everyone else when they are going full speed. Despite the fleet feet of Mr. Robinson from Michigan, he was often captured and destroyed by a certain MLB who ran a conspicuous 4.7 40yd but knew where to be.

So my message to GAIII: Run, George! Run! A 220 lb. guy who hits a hole full speed is going to take some momentum forward.

I don't think George is fast outside of track. Whenever a ND player or recruit runs a poor 40-time, we always say '40 times don't matter', but it goes both ways. If you didn't know he was a blazer in track, you wouldn't see him and say 'wow that's a fast RB'.

His acceleration is really bad. He needs 10 yards, unimpeded to reach a good speed, and that will never happen unless you're playing Miami. Amir, Tarean, and Bryant all look faster than him. With the freshman emerging, it will be interesting how they use George. Maybe as a passing threat? Start him out in the backfield and motion him to get him against a LB? IDK. It's too late for him to move to defensive back (It's funny that people are finally coming around to this idea, because I pleaded for the staff to make George a safety before last year and I was nearly ran off of this site for it).

I really think he'd be a mismatch when motioned out. Let him run his straight line, and there's no LB on our schedule and barely and safeties that will stick with him.

Wooly my OP started off by saying Cams a gamer and we went from there. I like GAIII but I don't think he's a smash them in the mouth type of back. He has the size but not the mentality.
I mentioned Bettis because I like those kinds of backs.
The type to line it up smash you in the mouth and grind you down.

It at least looks like GAIII can hold on to the ball -- on the 2nd carry I really thought he was going to fumble the way he got his bell rung.

I hear you, but you can't travel 100 yards in 10.36 unless you are really fast at every point of your run. His problem seems to be that he is overthinking things at the begining of his run and is simply not running hard. I think this is because he is so big that he has a harder time changing directions than the smaller guys, and he is trying to wait for a hole to open.

When he is decisive, he is fast. When he is running in a straight line, he is incredibly fast. What he needs to do is just run towards where the hole is supposed to be, get his pads low, and hope for the best! :)

I am not a true believer, but I think he is not as unproductive as some seem to be implying.
