If they don't get sacks and turnovers, they can't afford to give up big plays and getting stops on third down becomes a must.

I think they will be fine in these next two games. They get to go on the road and get away from home after the Green Out against the Buckturds. When they get back after two wins, they have Caleb Williams coming to town.

How Al Golden schemes and executes for that is going to push me in one direction of the other about whether or not I think he can be the DC of a National Champion at ND.

Golden wanted his goal line package in the game with OSU at the one and had them in there. This should have been the go to obviously. To think OSU would throw first with :07 left isn’t a crazy thought as a two for one made sense. Freeman called time out and put the nickel package back out there. Sadly, Botehlo didn’t get the memo. I believe Golden wanted goal line and was overruled. Lucked out with incompletion but then ND had the time to run different package out there and didn’t. Again don’t see this as being totally on Golden. Freeman, Washington, and D coaches can all share in the collapse.

I mean how much of the subs is on golden? You only have 30ish seconds to call a play and effectively communicate that to the guys on the field. As far as I know that’s the main job of the position coaches. And based on the video it looks like it’s a missing d line again. If so then Washington needs to be put through the ringer.

I was a volunteer HS varsity football coach. I was in the press box for home and away games. This was literally one of my responsibilities for two years. If we had too many or not enough, I'd tell the coach on the headset and we'd relay to the sideline.

This is Notre Dame Football 2023 we're talking about. If I can do this for free for a meddling Class 7A HS program in Illinois, they've got to be able to handle this from here out right?

Get someone who can count to 11. There should be an abundance of them on that campus. 11, the number that's more than the Commandments but less than the Apostles.

How do they not have someone dedicated to counting the number of players on the field? I mean shit, pay a student $20 and a case of beer to count players each play lol

Carter came off and a dline was supposed to come on. Play before this vs TSU was a passing play, then they got first down so 3 times now we haven't had the right number of Dline on the field. Not putting all the blame on washington, but it's very clear he's part of the problem.

Washington is a huge problem if this is the case he's in charge of hearing Goldens call and sending in his group

If I was freeman I’d be in Goldens ear this week telling him “hey, man, every ND fan wants Elko back as DC. Man, They all think he craps on you as a defensive strategist - what are you going to do about that”

Golden doesn’t recruit well enough for my liking. I’d move on regardless of the fact he is a decent/good DC.

OSU hasn't been held to under 20 since 2017.

I leave the game far more confident in Golden as a coach than I was prior, and I was already high on him as an on the field coach.
He held them to 21 last year

I know Freeman needed a mentor but I was surprised when they announced him. And I think this was a lot of people’s concern.

Won’t get into details but heard through some back channels that he won’t be back next year.

The defensive play against OSU was outstanding and I’m not gonna pretend it wasn’t. The blame lies with Sam “1 TD” Hartman. You will not beat ohio state going scoreless in the first half

Booger. He’s never coordinated before. How many green horns do we need?

Freeman has and is undergoing a lifetime worth of experience right now. We went all in on young, exciting, recruit heavy, players coaches.

I say we go all the way. I believe MF will never let these mistakes ever happen again. I say we promote electric guy who has turned a liability into one of the best units on the team. Dude can coach, he loves to recruit.

I dunno, man. Maybe you're right. I just like the idea of staying the course with young and player first. But what do I know.
