I don't doubt Wooden and Lambert at all....IMO both will be darn good corners and Both have a shot at the NFL...

(wooden was a top 10 DB going into this year on Mel Kipers Board)

If Wooden goes to the League, he'll be a safety or nickel type guy.

I hope he's healthy this year.

Hey, if he goes to the league he goes to the league.....that is one hell of an accomplishment even if he is a back up his whole career....

I'm looking forward to a

Wooden
Lambert
Zbikowski
Bruton

Defensive backfield......but I am curious if Bruton will lock down the job

Who knows, if Walls can get his act together early enough...maybe we see
CB Lambert
CB Walls
SS Zbikowski
FS Wooden

FYI Fighting Irish9. Weis changed the name of the WLB position this year. As of right now ND has a Will (WLB), Mike (MLB), and Sam (SLB).

Well if we move to 3-4 none of the "names" for the spots will matter

Dont forget about Gary Gray possibly making an impact in that secondary, even if it is on a backup basis. I do think Walls has alot of potential. And for anyone who says abimiri didnt live up to potential, how could he when he was double teamed so often? But I see what your saying.....

I also look for Raeshon Mcneil to make an impact next year.

Quick question, I know they are older and more experienced, but why does everyone want to see lambert and wooden in the secondary next year? I like the senior leadership, but i would rather see some of the younger guys in there more often

because they played better than the younger guys

How can you say they played better when a guy like Mcneil hardly played at all. Wooden had a TERRIBLE year and while Lambert made some big plays, do you remember the Michigan game? My thought is the secondary cant be any worse with the young guys, but they have more upside in the long run, so why not play them.

They might. My old HS team usually ran a base 4-4 and we used those names. we just did it like this, Will (WOLB), Mike (WILB), Sam (SILB), and Renagade (SOLB). We also ran some 4-3, and Nickle.

#1 because they started over those guys
#2 Walls played poorly all year (he was a Frosh and will get better but doubtfull he jumps two experienced players with basicly the same amount of athleticism)
#3 in case you missed #1, they started over those guys

FI9 is correct.

The freshmen CB did struggle this year.

Just like Todd Lyght, Tom Carter and Bobby Taylor did as true frosh. Lambert and Wooden provide a nice veteran duo that will segway to a more Mendoza-ized Walls and McNeil.

CB isn't a postion at the CFB level that you just walk into and excel at. Its a completely different game in college...They will make strides next year...Playing in the Nickel and dime, and spelling for injuries and will be ready to start and excel by their Jr years....

I think the "expectations" many have for freshman is way over the top just because Weis recruited them

wooden won't get a sniff in the league. he has never been able to cover anybody in college, what makes anybody think that he can cover anybody on sunday? baffles me.

when he has been healthy he has never shut anybody down. he has a nose for loose balls, i will give him that.

When I Defensive Coordinator plans LB blitzes from 5-7 yards out, a CB will not be able to cover a Pop-Warner player. There is only a certain amount of time a WR can be covered until it turns into sandlot football and then the WR usually wins.

And Tom Zbikowski gets beat deep all the time yet was considered a first/second round draft choice...

Wooden was a a top 10 DB in Mel Kipers list this season....the guy will get into the NFL...is he first day....maybe maybe not, but he will get drafted
