Well I tuned into the Sports Reporters on ESPN to see what they would say regarding the Irish. The crew was an all black cast so I knew this was going to come up and it did. Roy S. Johnson of SI said this right off the bat: "I haven't quite yet turned the corner on Notre Dame. Charlie Weis I'm sure is a great coach, is gonna be a great coach, but until someone at that school explains to me why they did not allow Ty Willingham to live out his contract as they did with previous coaches, I'm not quite willing to turn the corner. Tyrone Willingham goes 8-0 and gets fired, Charlie Weis goes 6-2 he gets a new five year contract. Now he is there for 10 years...happy for Charlie Weis, but Notre Dame still gots some 'splainin' to do to me." I was happy that Thomas George did point out that if CW's finish is like Willingham's he will be fired too. Now running up to the bowl game we are going to hear ad nausem about this whole situtation. Johnson also brought up the fact that these were Willingham's kids and not Weis's, but lets think about it Stovall, Shark and Quinn were not half the players under Willingham that they are now under Weis. But what kind of arrogence do you have to have to say that Notre Dame owes him an explanation about why they fired their coach. Did he want one when they fired their coach and hired John L. Smith? Why does every story have to bring this up?
