Wiltfong with a prediction for Texas tech

Cody Campbell is literally writing million dollar checks left and right so that Texas Tech came recruit at levels they never have before. Don't be surprised if they land 6+ top 100 recruits, including #1 overall Jalen Brewster. If they can keep those kids in their program and continue to augment well with the Portal, they're going to be a national powerhouse.

Tech becoming a thorn in our side

Not just ND. They're becoming the new Oregon. A team with very little history or tradition, but unlimited pocket books, enabling them to capalize in this era.

Don't be surprised if they have a $50-$55 million roster this year. Campbell and his fellow oil tycoon boosters won't even blink at that pricetag. It's fun money for them. I have it on good authority that they are throwing out $500,000-$2,000,000 offers like they're hot cakes. Any top transfer or top high school recruit they covet will be getting a very top of line offer from Tech.

If a roster like ND's comes in at $30-$35 million by comparison (which is in the top 10% nationally) you can easily see how Tech can afford to outbid their opposition by a couple hundred thousand for each top recruit.

Now, maximum money won't be the deciding factor for every recruit, so it's not as if they're going to land every player they want... But it will be for enough of them that if they manage their roster correctly, they'll be an annual playoff contender.

We need Iran to get its shit together and come to agreement to open the straight of Hormuz. Texas oil boys are going to start bringing in even more money otherwise!

These guys are picking the wrong time to attend Texas Tech, I remember the period when every QB passing thru there was passing for 4-5k....I guess they admire the career of Micah Hudson🤣🤣🤣

Uhh...has no bearing since oil is produced here...
I think what he was saying is the closure of the Strait has driven up oil prices worldwide. So it has a lot of bearing. Like millions and millions of dollars worth of bearing. Also, most of the oil produced in the USA is light sweet crude, which USA refineries don't refine. So we export it and don't actually use it here.

Do we pay kids to take visits or not take visits?
Where are the parents is my question, I mean it's simple "son, these are the worthy schools it's a short list of 4-5 not 10 and damn sure not 12. Later for the money talk, go on a visit and rank the facilities, the staff/coaches, atmosphere/culture then we discuss your positional fit/roster at each...Now the money comes last in sequence based on how you rated each accordingly"

Exactly what I'll be telling my son in 2 years

Texas A&M bought an elite class, loaded with 8-9 Dlinemen, but it did not turn out that well for them.

You can't have but so many chefs in one kitchen...the fact that all those "bright minds" go to the same school at the same position is the real blunder...almost like when all those top WRs were going to 'Bama just to watch the RBs carry the ball up and down the field.

If 12 schools wanted to pay my son more than the average household's annual income to visit them, I'm not sure I'd have my nose so in the air about it that I would advise him to not accept the invitation. Of course there's something to be said against knowingly wasting a school's time if you 100% know you're not interested, but if you're up front with that and they still want to pay for the opportunity to sell you on their vision, I don't see the harm.

High oil prices definitely benefit state of Texas. Yes, we may pay more for gas ( but generally cheaper than most places in USA). But the State reaps ton of income that funds universities, highways, and lower taxes. And those involved in the oil/gas biz definitely living the life....UT, TAMU, TT, TCU boosters are as flush with payola as they come.

Yeah Jerry Jeudy, Davonta Smith, Waddle, Ruggs, J Williams, and Calvin Ridley were just bums.

This kid's film is phenomenal against Texas competition, very smooth and polished playmaker, can see why he would fetch high $.

I would encourage anyone who can make money based off of their God-given abilities that they’ve honed to the point that they’re able to profit from it to make as much as you can while you have the chance.

Obviously at some point there is nuance when it comes to development and preparation for the next level…but being paid to visit seems like a no-brainer. Check out some different campuses and programs and make a few hundred K along the way.

That's why I'm glad I've taught him about the importance of decision making thus far. $$ is good but it's just a tool and certainly won't be the main factor in his recruitment and if more took that approach then we don't have this musical chairs of hopping in the portal every season due to kids going to schools for ALL the wrong reasons chasing bags instead of the things that matter both athletically and scholastically.

Nobody really is considering all those schools, so yes you would be indeed wasting half of those schools time and just basically using some for leverage against the actual schools you have interest in attending. Absolutely understand the game but I was brought up different and try to instill those same values in my children. The biggest issue is now kids are committing to schools they don't have much interest in just because of the money and don't even pay attention to the essential things, so next thing you know you get decommits and even worse a kid at a school for 5-10 months (depending on EE) unhappy and hopping in the portal around Bowl season.

Did you forget David Palmer and Julio Jones too? 🤔

I was speaking alot more recently than back when Obama was still in office and Malik Zaire and Deshone Kizer were splitting QB duties at ND.

I was referencing guys from THIS DECADE and especially these cycles back to back years

JaCorey Brooks #2
Agiye Hall #5
Jojo Earle #6
Christian Leary #9

Aaron Anderson #3
Shazam Preston #8
Kobe Prentice #10
