Just so that the people who think ND should land everyone actually understand what ND's up against... Mike Frank just reported that Oregon has offered Marcus Fakatou 3 years x $3 million. $9 million total, with re-negotiation should he stay for a 4th year.

Notre Dame's NIL budget this year is reportedly going to be in the $37-$40 million range. Top 10 in college football. But there are 105 guys on the roster and almost all of them have to be paid something. Transfer Portal guys that are already developed are notoriously costly as well.

So you have to ask yourself. If you get 3 top 150 DL at $1 million each per year, or Marcus Fakatou for $3 million per year, what would you take? Personally, I'd be saying "good luck in Eugene Marcus, because we need some 'cap' flexibility and depth of talent."

Was just coming here to post the same, 3 million for a guy that wants to play DE that probably wont be able to play DE long term is brutal. Especially combined with the other guys they want to sign in this class. Glad I don't have to make these decisions lol

It’s crazy to think that kids in high school are being offered money in line with 2nd round draft picks in the NFL on rookie contracts. Something had to change

Just so that people can visualize it, assuming all 105 players on ND's roster are being paid something, and ND's roster budget is roughly $40 million as reported by Mike Frank, the following is inexact, but representative of how that money could be dished out annually in order to compete in recruiting and retaining your best players. For the sake of this exercise 10 spots have been reserved for walks-ons being paid a neglible 25K to be on team... You quickly can see how the money doesn't go as far as some fans might think.

1 x $3 million
3 x $2 million
3 × $1.5 million
4 × $1.25 million
4 × $1.0 million
5 x $750K
11 x $500K
19 x $250K
20 x $100K
25 x $50K
10 x $25K

doesn't the cost of the scholarship also count in that $40 million? Because that's like $7 million for 100+ man roster.

Christian ISD with a write up this AM. Loved his visit, loved Partrige. Kid said himself we're right behind OSU however and that's fresh off a visit where he boosts everyone to #1.

So we're still trailing? :(

Yeah, I know the staff will do what they should do and keep recruiting him, but his pattern of putting everyone #1 after his visit except us isn't too promising. I would love to be pleasantly surprised and end up with him. I think it would be better for him, but we shall see.

With Jackson Vaughn re-classifying and ND leading for Sesay, it seems to me that Fakatou at that price just isnt going to happen.

Even if he wants to come, I dont think you can justify paying 3 top dollar kids at the same position.

Vibe I am getting. Can't see us affording Sesay, Fakatou, Vaughn, and Folorunsho. Also, we have Parks, O'Neil and recent Texas kid. We should get a good DL class, but how it is allocated is tbd.

I think this is one of those recruitments that Fong thinks he will come around to his first love in the Irish in the end. That’s all I can think cause I don’t think there’s enough out there right now to justify a ND pick. Losing Washington and the high dollar offers being reported have caused us to fall back but maybe he can come around to remembering why the Irish were on top early.

I’d like to know what OSU is offering if Oregon is in his rear view mirror at $9M over 3 years.

Skyline chili tastes like pimples.

Is NIL the hold up for landing Fakatou?

I think ND has more in their corner in landing Fakatou- his family is good with KVA's family, if we land Vaughn- Fakatou could be a package.

ND came up with the NIL $ to land Premer.

No, it's not just NIL. Oregon, Ohio State and Notre Dame are all legitimately good options for him. They all win at a high level. They all send guys to the NFL. The all have competitive NIL offers and they all have things working in their respective favors.

If it was purely abouy NIL Oregon would be the obvious choice. They're apparently offering 3 years x $3 million per year for $9 million in total. Ohio State and Notre Dame are probably offering half of that and maybe less guaranteed.

Ohio State has Larry Johnson, National Championships, a history of development and competitive NIL... Ryan Day at the helm.

Notre Dame has education, a close network of Samoans, a history of development and competitive NIL. Marcus Freeman at the helm.

Oregon has proximity to home, a large Samoan network, a history of development, the most competitive NIL. Dan Lanning at the helm.

You really can't go wrong with any of the three.
