Big loss?

There was growing optimism he'd make the visit and we'd have a chance to get him in the class. If you want to do the fun self-consoling word game of "never had him, wasn't a loss" then fine. Bonus points if you compare it to "hot celebrity not going out with me was a loss".

He was one of a small number of WR prospects that has a very high ceiling & also has interest in ND. There are possession guys (important) and there are potential gamebreakers. I think Brown is the latter and having to strike his name from the list is a loss.

Disagreements are welcomed and appreciated.

Oh you were referring to Brown, I thought you were referring to another prospect. Just looking at the guys committed he's a smidge under Frazier (Gamebreaker) and well above Faison (Possession?? Gamebreaker??) as a prospect. So I agree with you in that aspect, but as I was trying to explain to others if you take a guy like Faison first as opposed to a Keys, Finley or even Frazier then your due to miss out on 1-2 guys who certainly would've come but decide not to due to #s.

He made a post about Brown in Brown’s thread after Brown committed lol. Of course you keep making the thread about not liking Faison.

It's not about whether I like or don't like a prospect. I believe if you have a board of 15 at a position it makes more sense to jumpstart with a guy in the upper half of the board as opposed to the 14th guy. Conventional wisdom is anybody you miss on who likely would've committed such as a Brown is a better prospect. It would've been like taking Williams' commitment at the same time nothing against Faison but they're at the bottom of the board so to speak.

I disagree with your premise and conclusion. The recruits we want in this class aren't afraid of competition and wouldn't turn away from ND due to numbers. Besides, as you paint it, Faison is hardly a recruit they should be worried about because he's not a threat to them by your own logic. (I don't agree regarding Faison and think his short area quickness is ++)

Brown committed to Texas because he either wanted Texas all along or..... received the best 'package' from Texas or....something that ND didn't have. It's a bummer but nothing about his decision screams he was afraid of the numbers. I hope the staff can find a great group of players to join ND.

Todays recruits aren't yesterday's recruits and in large part they do go elsewhere due to numbers. Just look at the transfer portal, the days of a 5* or 4* level recruit waiting more than 2 years to play are long gone, and aside from the days of Saban and 'Bama paying pre-NIL nobody has really gotten bundles of highly ranked guys to stay at one skill position.

Fact of the matter is in this era I've hardly spoken with any recruits (NOT just ND) who don't want to be basically guaranteed PT within 2 years, let alone wait around years for playing time. I don't like it but fact is more kids were willing to wait in my era (2002-04) as compared to today.
