First of all, in today’s landscape, ND won’t consistently be in the top 5. Unless they are committed to more roster turnover. Until then, it’s probably a realistic goal for top 5 every 3rd or 4th year and always in top 10.

It’s irrelevant when we get the players just that we do. We had 7 guys in the top 150ish. That group could’ve went just about anywhere they wanted. Taking some of these guys out of the conversation because they aren’t 5 stars seems convenient. Tyree was a big priority for Bama.. Mills could’ve went to OSU. Same goes for Carmody. Nobody was turning away Tosh Baker or Botelho.

First let me say that I think we have the capability with a little more effort. Your comments don’t address my point tho. We locked up 5* type talent Mayer a year and half b4 early signing day. We locked up Johnson 8 months before early NSD. We ended up, albeit on a year we could take even fewer recruits than normal, 17th ranked class on 24/7. My point is that until we get the JJ’s and MM’s early and still get the top 20 players late in the process, we will never compete with the top dogs in the recruiting aspect.

The early signing day imo took away some excitement on NSD. More of the young men had their minds made up and committed. I don’t care if we get a 5 star on April 1 or the following February first. As long as we get some we’ll be ok.

Couldn’t have said it any better myself. What I’d add is for people to pay more attention to avg rating instead of total score. The other reason some schools are ahead of us other than numbers is the 5 star local guys that they can grab which will put them ahead of ND even tho they might not have a better avg class ranking.

2020: 9th
2019: 12th
2018: 15th
2017: 11th
2016: 13th
2015: 5th
2014: 11th
2013: 4th
2012: 8th
2011: 8th
2010: 13th

I think if ND can continue to live in the top 10 for their average class ranking then I think they’ll compete well. 2021 is gonna be a fascinating class to watch cause it’ll be different than almost anything we’ve seen. I really really hope the coaches get a little SEC mentality in the fall and try to flip a bunch of guys who committed during this Coronavirus stuff. I hope they can get those dudes that were supposed to visit to take an OV in the late summer or fall. This virus is really hurting recruiting at ND a lot more than most schools.

And it's a Maryland guy and an Oregon guy. Not good.

This is odd. I guess we’ll see.

nothing final this year until the OV's are offered and rejected, IMO. Guys are grabbing spots without visiting and they'll be offered the OV experience in the fall which will be hard to turn down.

Poaching goes on every year but this year will be a poaching season to beat all poaching seasons.

Penn St didn't make his top 6? They were the leaders according to 247 CB's.

With a commitment date of Jan 2021 does it really matter?

So bizarre from Penn State cause it’s a super light year for mid Atlantic WR’s (I think 5 4* WR’s) and Thornton is obviously the jewel of the class that they’d have a chance at. Normally they’re all over mid Atlantic dudes, Florida dudes and Midwest dudes. Weird failure on their part

Ricky Rahne the old OC loved Thronton but coaching under Franklin is like coming into work everyday and being smarter than your boss. When Rahne left the chances of Thronton going to PSU dropped. Brent Pry would have been gone for BC if haffly didn't get it or MSU if it wasn't a dumpster fire. I think the new OC basically told Franklin just show up when I need you, and he did not need him for Thornton because he didn't want him.

Wiltfong says it’s Oregon first, ASU runner up, and the rest bringing up the rear.

I know an ASU network guy that says the same but wonders if ASU's roster haul will be a problem in landing him. Thinks the draw is Herm and his cool azz staff (which they are) and QB Jayden Daniels.

Thornton seems to like what I would call the "glitzy" teams and Oregon certainly fits the bill as does FSU and USC. UVA doesn't but that might just be a nod to having one team close to home.

I don't think ND ever had a chance with Thornton.

I still Colzie is a wild card at WR for ND. He's been decommited for how long and still hasn't committed elsewhere?? Last I heard Colzie's mom was in ND's corner, I think ND is still making him a high priority behind the scenes.

I don’t think there is any basis for saying this. He visited 2 years back for a camp. There’s a reason for that. He’s been receptive to ND since they started recruiting him post PSU de-commitment. Which is why he was scheduled to visit in April for the big weekend. Consistent and ongoing communication between both parties. And, will visit in the Fall.

This is my opinion, if I am wrong great; I hope I am wrong.

I'd rather have Colzie instead of Thornton.

I get that, people like speaking in absolutes. So, if you really think ND has no chance with Thornton then what kind of odds would you be willing to give for a bet. 100+ to 1 is probably appropriate for a zero percent chance. But let’s go 50 to 1, that seems extremely fair. What type of dollars are you comfortable with?

If I had to put down a CB today for Thornton it wouldn't be for ND-- so take those odds as you prefer. I think Oregon and PSU are the teams to beat.

But you've been around the block here for a while on IE and recruiting can change daily, weekly, monthly. If he is visiting in June then I like ND's chances better.

If I am betting on a player coming to ND-- it is a yes or no, not a odds game...

Today, I don't see him coming to ND.

I think ND had a chance. Like Lucky said, he came to camp for a reason.

BUT

He left like Caleb Johnson w/o an offer (Johnson 2x) and didn't capitalize on the moment. Lost 15 months of serious recruiting with offer in hand.

So, just like it is with a lot of sports betting. Binary outcomes like win or lose. Where they still assess odds.

I guess if I was so confident in something, I’d want to make some money from it.

You seem to think ND gets him if you are confident; glad you are confident.

Why would I bet when the situation can change tomorrow, next week, or next month if he visits?

If he were to announce this Friday with the information known do you think he picks the Irish?

Unsure how one could possibly interrupt it that way. Never said I was confident. I’m not the one speaking in absolutes.

You said, ND never had a chance. If you truly feel that way then I would think you’d want to capitalize on it. My pet peeve is people speaking in absolutes without willingness to back it up. I figured this situation was similar, turns out I was right.

Post #57:
"I guess if I was so confident in something, I’d want to make some money from it."

To me that seems that you are more confident than not, especially if you want to make money on odds of a 17 yr. old kid. Do we have to discuss odds on your own confidence now? If so no further response on my end.

We made his top 6. Great, fantastic, awesome, would love him to commit to ND. He has camped here like NDCrusader and yourself have said- how many have camped at ND and not committed?

My choice of word of "never" a chance probably shouldn't have been used because we obviously have a 6/1 chance. Do I think he commits- NO. Would love to land both he and Colzie, but I don't see it happening. If I am wrong, great, I hope I am wrong.
