Clemson 31-21.

The game starts out promising as we run down Clemson's throat. Drew orchestrates yet another pre-halftime drive to get ND to a 14-3 lead, and everyone is feeling great. Win the middle eight!

Clemson takes their turn after halftime though, clamping down on the run game and bracketing Mayer. They force a three-and-out, score on a quick strike on a short-ish field. They then force a Drew turnover on a tipped pass (so frustrating!), and score quickly on another short field. Suddenly it's 17-14 Clemson, momentum changing like a lightning strike.

The teams trade ugly possessions, until DJ U scampers in for a back-breaking TD run to make it 24-14 late in the 3rd.

The teams trade possessions AGAIN, with both defenses tightening up. Then ND blocks another punt, making it 6 on the year! They score on a short field and have life! 24-21 with all the momentum suddenly pointing towards the Irish midway through the 4th.

Then DJ scrambles on a key third down when ND could have gotten the ball back in traditional field position. ND forces a 4th-and-inches at their own 40. Dabo decides to go for the conversion to keep milking clock, rather than trying a super long field goal. Shipley breaks through the backside of a crowded box, no one is deep enough to catch him, and Clemson takes a 31-21 lead.

ND has enough time for a four-minute drive, with hopes that they can get an onside kick after that... but it fizzles out around mid-field.

Pain.
No. Have a closer look, that was off Correl's helmet.
And I saw about 20 holds that weren't called.

Agonized over this one, hoping some cool windy conditions hurt the Clemson offense more than ours (lulz), and while their d-line looks scary on paper I think we wake up the echoes with some good ole fashioned bully ball and cram it in their cramhole.

Irish 21-17.

We start off slow, Clemson does not and takes an early 3-0 lead. Offense and defense settle in and we start forcing some punts and get ahead in field position thanks to running game and Mayer. The Clemson talent on the DLine can’t account for assignment errors from their Linebackers. 7-3 Irish end of 1st.

Clemson has a semi-good drive and gets a field goal. Irish stall as Pyne misses another 3rd and short pass. Clemson comes back again and their receivers make some play. DJ looks pretty good as the wind settles a bit. TD NewSpring Tigers. Irish squander another opportunity with 5 or 6 minutes left in the half. Clemson decided to go tempo running and we cannot stop them. They burn clock and score another TD on a 3rd down scramble where no one accounts for the QB. 20-7 halftime.

But the Irish aren’t done, finally a fumble goes our way, as Jayson ademilola rips out a Mafah inside run, he’s no Audric. Irish take advantage of good field position, Mitch Evans gets a reception with YAC, takes us inside the 10. Diggs runs once to get us to the 2. Quick out, Mayer. 20-14. Next possession, DJ throws a deep out to Collins against the wind, but a streaking Brandon Joseph makes a game changing play. 21-20 Irish. Clemson, looking shaken, punts to end the third.

Running game looks decent, but a screen pass to Tyree springs the Irish into Clemson territory. Disaster strikes. Pyne throws an I’ll advised prayer to Merrieeather, Clemson ball. DJ is going hero mode. We can’t guard a slant, and Antonio Williams burns us for not recruiting him well last year. They’re driving, and a swing pass to Shipley plus some missed tackles in the secondary give the Tigers back the lead. 28-21 after the 2pt conversion. 6 minutes to go, Pyne tried playing hero ball, 3rd and ten. We run Audric up the middle to make it 4th and 2. Mitch-a-palooza, but a pass this time. First down and more for Mayer from the slot. We’re in Clemson territory. Styles exorcises demons, tie game.

Clemson tries a two minute drill and gets to near midfield. Irish hold them, they punt. IT’S BLOCKED. Foskey strikes again and Kiser recovers. Irish ball at midfield. Big pass to Colzie, gain of 15. They run it and Diggs gets 6 out of nothing. They run again and get 2. Timeout with 3 seconds remaining. Grupe nails a FG. 31-28 irish
