Defense will come next week

good recap. i think you were too nice on WR... removing consideration of 2018 and the potential of 2020, it's a big F. Even considering 2018, IMO F+. Agree they settled too early.

You think the combination of the last two WR classes is an F+, really?

Not even remotely accurate. Austin is arguably the best WR prospect of the Kelly era. Lenzy was a top 250 guy (USC, Stanford, Oregon, UCLA offers). Obviously a top West Coast ATH. Keys was a battle where we beat Texas, who has finished with back to back top 5 classes. So obviously recruiting at a high level. And Micah Jones was also a 4 star WR. Getting four 4 star WR's in two classes, is substantially better than an F+, lol.

And, that's completely discounting Hart, KAR, and even Wilkins.

An F/F+ should be reserved for not being able to an even field a competitive group which is not what is happening here.

Not what I meant. AT ALL
I'm assuming he meant given 2018 was a good year, he was cutting a little slack on 2019 (not averaging). I'm saying even with giving 2019 some slack ( again, not averaging 2018 and 2019) , I still see it as Fish. Not giving it any slack, F.

Given 2018, we didn't need to take a low ranked project. Especially one who doesn't have position flexibility between WR and RB. We have WRs that we know RS'd in 2018 (and we knew before Hart committed that they'd likely RS). I hope Hart works out, but it's a move that made little sense to me. Not that it has to make sense to me, it's just my opinion.

I agree it is not great, but I do think the staff, several of the Notre Dame analysts, and a couple of people on this board are high on Cam Hart which is what gives me pause to say that this is a total failure of a class. I do think they should have done a lot better because they had the time to spend on one dude. Garrett Wilson's brother played for BK and loves him. Jake Smith's dad is from Indiana and is a huge Notre Dame fan. Marcus Washington comes from a Trinity Catholic program in St. Louis that is not very far away and also has Reggie Love in the program along with Jordan Johnson & Kyren Williams from the same town. Nolan Groulx was an Army All American, had a strong connection with Clark Lea I believe, and was never offered. Trey Knox was driving distance from Notre Dame, spoke highly of the school, and never even made it to campus. The list goes on, but hopefully 2020 will be better because the WR room needs more talent to be added to it

Agree. Like you, I just think we should have went all in on some higher guys, and should have explored more of others. Not what I would have taken in June. He peaked at 492nd, and is now 685th. Not that ratings are everything, just not sure I saw enough in his film. Haven't seen any film though of his senior season.

Given the scholarship situation, I'd have been OK with skipping 2019 like we did with TE as well.

He's got Koon's stamp of approval, so that should be good enough.

So maybe I'm off but I liked his film. The podcast peeps seem "meh" on him. Lucci what do you think of Cam Hart?

Koon needs his own thread for prospect rating. We could call it Koon's Mirror-side Chats

But seriously though, his film isn't bad at all. He seems very solid, just not sure about the level of talent they're playing against ( I think it's a Catholic conference). That said, just didn't stand out or wow me. Some folks got excited that he performed well at a PennST Camp, but he didn't even get an offer from Penn State as a result. Not sure if he did any other camps. Regardless, he's Irish, and I hope he balls out.

This could end up being a Kuechly level miss. And Rees/HH/Quinn/BK/Rees all had their chance to save the day.

2019 could've been the all time greatest class had the staff guessed right.

Since Darius Alexander is blowing up on draft boards, it's crazy to think that Mike Elston's staycation recruiting trip to the land of gas station Italian food could've landed us two top 2 round picks in Alexander and Tippmann
