LOL Utah just issued a release saying contrary to reports there are "no plans to add any sports at this time."

Lax, the hot rumor around lawn guyland is Texas is going to be next. The coaching staff has been very active in recruiting and letting it be known they are doing it soon. You heard any of this?

On an unrelated note, I'm glad to see some late flips happening. One of the kids I train blew up this spring and decommited. He's getting some high level interest going into his senior year. I'm tired of 9th grade commitments

I have heard BYU, USC, Stanford, and Colorado rumors for some time... had not heard Texas, but then I don't know anyone remotely connected to that place. Would make a lot of sense.

Utah seems like a strange school to make the move but I would love it if it happened.

It's a problem. I don't blame schools for trying to get in on kids early, and I don't blame kids for "committing" to secure their future... but I do blame kids for not strongly considering all of their options, and I do blame coaches when they add up with bad players on account of taking a guy who looked good before he hit puberty. I like ND's strategy of grabbing a few players early, and then reserving most spots for players that develop later and/or poaching from other programs. Biggest thorn in ND's side right now is losing impact players to other sports like hockey and football... lost about 5 difference makers in recent years.

Kavanagh looked very healthy and quite good (five goals) in the MLL semis over the weekend. Two other Domers in the semis included Rodgers and Ossello. Kavenasty's game is perfect for the MLL, up tempo. He is so good at dodging and improving his shooting angles especially in transition with no set slides.

Hopefully after enough time he approaches the explosiveness he had as a sophomore. Some guys (like Billy Bitter) are never the same post-injury, but Kavanagh seems to have gotten progressively more comfortable as time has passed since his operations.

Recruiting rankings are out from IL. Notre Dame's class features 7 top 100 players, which is quite surprising considering last year these players were generally rated MUCH lower: 2016 Power 100 Freshmen Rankings | Inside Lacrosse

They generally seem high on our defenders, while considering Brian Willets and Bryan Costabile our impact players on offense. My little brother played with Costabile's older brother at Penn State and he's been committed for a lonnnnnnng time so obviously the staff really likes what he brings as a complete midfielder. I'm not sure how developed his offensive game is going to be as a frosh though. Willetts will be given the opportunity to push for playing time day 1... he reminds me of a less physical Yeatman coming out of HS.

Kyle Hyland is the 3rd ranked FOGO, which is an area ND has struggled at relative to other top ACC teams for a few years now.

No proven dodgers from X, well documented face off issues, lack of scoring punch from the midfield and two big losses on D are the question marks. Are the Irish in for a re-building year (relative to recent successes)? It will take a masterful job of coaching this Spring to win the ACC again.

On paper, we are clearly worse than UNC, Duke, and probably UVa coming into this year. I think we're probably screwed unless a third first line midfielder develops out of thin air. I think defense will get it done, but no Landis means we'll struggle to really lock down anyone... gonna have to go more amoeba like we used to.

Next year's recruiting class is LOADED though.

Don't know anything about next year's recruiting class. More teams are picking up the up tempo unsettled game. On settled O, Denver, UNC and Brown (not to ND) all figured out how to dissect a quick sliding D over the past three years (you have to have great offensive personnel and the right scheme). Attacking the weak link one on one and creating a great in tight (<8 yards) shooting opportunity for a shooter with free hands (usually due to a great seal) or a crease attackman was the recipe for success. Are we fighting the last war or will the amoeba win a National Championship? Generally older coaches (unlike Dick LeBeau) are unwilling to change. I'm betting on the amoeba as well.
