I know it's really early to start thinking about next draft since the pre-season hasn't even started, but there are some significant changes being announced to the draft process, so I thought it would make sense to start a thread. Feel free to discuss the coming changes, ND guys who might go or anything else draft-related.

NEW TO 2015:

Chicago, IL
2015 NFL Draft to be held in Chicago - NFL.com

Underclassmen Evaluations/Draft Grades:
In an effort to prevent underclassmen from getting too optimistic about their grades and prematurely jumping to the league, the NFL is making the following changes for this draft:
In the past, there were five categories: As high as the first round; as high as the second round; as high as the third round; no potential to go in the first three rounds; And no potential to be drafted.

The league has cut that down to three categories -- first round, second round, and neither, which will equal the board advising the player to stay in school.

Additionally, schools will be capped on how many evaluations they can request:
Previously, there was no cap on the number of players who could apply for a draft grade from the board. The new limit is set at five per school, with schools allowed to ask for more, if the talent on hand warrants it.

I don't understand the point of capping the # of requests per school.

Probably to make schools do a deeper level of evaluation before asking for the NFL's take.

On a semi-related note, if there were limits on how many grades you could request, maybe Kelly doesn't get Niklas checked out last year without Troy asking him to.

Well, I think it's BS the school gets to decide whether the individual gets an evaluation. There is no rationale for these moves apart from the idea that denying information to the kids will result in fewer underclassmen declaring.

The NFL may also be covering it's ass a bit on this. It's an inexact science to hand out these grades, but some kids take them almost as promises. Remember when someone convinced AJ McCarron he wa a first rounder so he skipped the Senior Bowl?

Another issue is that the NFL may just be admitting its own inability to do a good job handling so many requests. From the article I linked in the OP:
The reason for the adjustment there is based on the board's own struggle in categorizing players. Over the three-year period from 2012-14, the board was accurate on 73.7 percent of its first-round grades and 85.4 percent of its second-round grades, with most of the misses being slight ones. Conversely, the accuracy rate dropped to 52.9 percent on third-round grades, and nearly 53 percent of those receiving a third-round grade or lower went undrafted.

In 2014, the board assigned 35 players with an "as high as the third round" grade, and 21 of them entered the draft. Nine of the 21 went later than the third round, and three weren't drafted at all.

This article seems to agree with you though:

I still don't think it's going to have the outcome they're hoping for. Just less-informed decisions.

I've seen him listed as a top pick next year, but had no idea he was a beast like this:
