2013 US Open

First off I would like to thank all the great dads we have on this site and wish them all a fantastic Father's day. Since the US Open coincides with Father's day.

We had a good time with The Masters thread so I aim to keep it going with the US Open. I love the obvious pairing with Tiger, Scott, and Rory. Can't wait to see how awkward that becomes with Tiger and Stevie, not to mention Scott working with Butch Harmon and using Tiger's old swing. Definitely will be interesting. Rory seems to have been off lately as well so he needs to step up now if he wants to continue being great.

Don't know much about Merion other than that it's not that long and Hogan and Jones won there. Last time it hosted an Open was 1981.

I could see a tight leader board on Sunday with a mix of young and old players still going for it.

A buddy of mine from college is working the US Open. So jealous of him. Rory seems to have struggled since the switch to Nike. That will be an interesting group to watch.

This is pretty much my line of thinking. I don't think he'll be able to handle the pressure of being the third most followed golfer in that group. Tiger will always have the most fans, and Adam Scott will have the eyes of every woman.

It is a popular misconception that Scott copied Woods' swing. This is not true. When Scott came on tour he was asked this question and said he did not and his "natural" swing just happened to look very similar to Woods' swing (at least it did back then). Obviously over time Woods' swing mechanics have changed while Scott's has remained basically the same.

We won't see very many drivers played. There's one short par3, but the others are really long. I think the course has two par 5s in first four holes and that's it. Tiger will really have to play well to win, imo. Usually he can take advantage of the par 5s and build a lead, but since there's only two, he'll have to find other ways to win.

First off. This is not true. There was an episode of Feherty (which is a great show btw) featuring Butch Harmon and he explains how Adam Scott's swing is exactly Tigers from when he was coached by him. They even did video comparison. I'll post it if I can find it online.

Anyway I have been busy and thought this thread died and am upset that I haven't seen much of the tournament but Tiger is done imo and I like Phils chances. And I think that Merion is the winner regardless. Like I said in the op don't know much about it but it's nasty!

With all due respect to Mr. Feherty and Mr. Harmon (both of which tend to over exaggerate their own importance), what I wrote is absolutely true. Adam Scott grew up and played predominately in Australia until 2000. While growing up his swing was established and shaped by his father (a golf pro). I found the following excerpt from an article published about Scott in a Queensland magazine article:

"Adam Scott, a lean 17-year-old amateur from Queensland, already had won two Australian junior titles and a world junior event in Scotland. Tall, lithe and with a languid, simple swing fashioned by his golf-pro father, Phil, the kid was being touted as the hottest junior prospect in Australia. This was his debut tournament against hard-nosed professionals. What's more, his idol Greg Norman was in the field, and would be the eventual winner."

Now I think Scott started working with Harmon when he was around 21, but I remember Scott and Baddeley doing well in professional tournaments in Australia as amateurs in the late 1990's (as noted in the above article) and Scott's swing was being compared to Woods on the Golf channel back then. This was at least 3 years before he ever met Butch Harmon. There is no way that Butch changed Scott's swing as Butch's philosophy is work with the players swing with only minor adjustments.
