I think 2012 is going to be special. Entering the 3rd year of BK could be awesome, especially if he keeps up the pace of development while developing depth. Many of the positions will be up for grabs from now until then. Just for fun this is what I see on offense. Feel free to add/subtract whomever. I am sure some of you may be better then I at this. But we can all agree, it'll be an exciting year for ND.

QB- Golson
RB- Wood
WR- Jones
WR- Toma
WR- Daniels
C-
TE- Eifert
LT- Zack Martin
RT-
LG- Chris Watt
RG-

Ha kinda funny Crist could easily still be the starter by then. I still think he'll be back and starting the next two years.

2012 is going to be all about the quarterback. How many top teams at any level reach elite status without a quaterback that makes plays. He doesn't have to be spectacular but he has to make plays, especially in a spread offense.

I don't know who it will be but the best player will play. We made it to 7-5, excuse me, 8-5 with what I think was pretty mediorce quaterback play. Not slamming anyone, but higher caliber play would have helped our record. There are lots of reasons but at the end of the day, that position has to step up.

My 2 cents.

I sincerely hope that Golson is the QB in 2012, because that means he's the real deal and we are likely competing at the highest level.

My second choice would be Hendrix, because again that means the same thing. He's beaten out the reigning starter and the starter before that (who just happened to be a five star recruit).

My next choice would be Dayne, which would mean he's back from injury and has beaten out the reigning starter and two up and coming high level prospects despite the fact that he has gimped both of his knees.

My last choice would be Tommy, which would basically mean we're in a holding pattern and none of the other QBs have panned out, because Tommy just doesn't appear to have the physical skills to be a top level QB in the long run. Now I'd love to be proven wrong about Tommy and see him turn into a four year starter, but he needs to change physically a great deal.

In any event, the next two years are all about what happens at the QB position for us.

i think no matter who it is, it will be the guy who gives us the best chance to win. whether thats tommy, dayne or the others i'll be fine with it. im pullin for dayne tho, the other guys are young and will have a chance, dayne patiently waited and if he's healthy probably gives us the best chance to win.

i think dayne starts next year, has a great year and leaves for nfl. so 2012 will be a little clearer also.

I'm in agreement with everyone who thinks 2012, and even 2011, depend almost solely on the quarterback. There isn't a quarterback on the roster who has proven without a doubt he is "the man." Luckily for us, Brian Kelly has been a magician with quarterbacks for the last decade or so.

Put me in the group that thinks Crist's days are probably numbered and Hendrix and Golson will be the quarterback-via-committee approach in 2012, maybe even 2011 since they'll have spring ball.

crist was supposed to be out 6 months last time he hurt his knee, he may have a spring ball as well.

you can't replace experience. going with guys who haven't taken live game snaps no matter how talented, will be filled with growing pains.

crist in 11' hendrix, golson or rees in mop up time.

2012, battle for the starting spot, someone is probably going to transfer.

2012 will be set up in 2011. I don't think we can have a new starter in 2012 and be competitive at a top level. With a few exceptions, history says you take a step back with a new starter at QB. Kelly can work magic but I bet his preference would be to have the same starter both years.

all of the candidates have the choice of being here in 12' it will be a pretty interesting spring to say the least.

With our schedule that year, I'd be happy with 9-3.

Offensively, we're probably looking at:

QB: Crist/Hendrix/Golson
RB: Wood
Outside WR #1: Really hard to tell. Kelly loves Daniels, so with Michael Floyd's departure he could see a lot of time.
Outside WR #2: Really hard to tell. Probably T.J. Jones.
Slot WR: Riddick
TE: Eifert
LT: Martin
LG: Watt
C: Cave (I think he has fifth year eligibility)
RG: Lombard?
RT: Hard to tell.

DE: Stephon Tuitt?
NT: Louis Nix
DE: Kapron Lewis-Moore
OLB: Prince Shembo
OLB: Dan Fox?
ILB: Manti Te'o
ILB: Carlo Calabrese
CB: Lo Wood
CB: ?
FS: ?
SS: Jamoris Slaughter

K: Tausch
P: Turk

If Hendrix is the QB

If Hendrix is the QB

couldn't that mean he is the real deal, too? Hopefully whoever starts is starting because he is the best of a good bunch.

DE - Don't forget about Kona, Stockton(he can play DE), and Cwyner.

WR - I think Goodman may get a fifth year, He may that third wr.

Other than those I agree with everything and I hope Crist comes back and gets his job back.

The nice thing about this year compared to a year ago at this time is that we have more answers than questions about the QB position. Crist, Hendrix, Golson and Rees are all potential options.

I had no idea what to expect last year, but I have to think that Crist is the favorite to start and at least, we'll have great backups in Hendrix, Rees and Golson as they'll compete against one another during spring ball while Crist rehabs.

QB: Golson
QB: Hendix
QB: Crist
RB: Huggins
RB: Wood
RB: McDaniel
WR: Atkinson
WR: Daniels
WR: TJ
WR: Carlisle
WR: Riddick
WR: Toma
TE: Welch
TE: Eifert
TE: Koyack

Lets let the depth chart take care of itself. Just look at the talent that is/could be scattered around this field at one time. I threw in Carlisle and Huggins because we set well with them and it's fun to think about. That much talent on one field is scary.

Aren't you guys Catholics. If you know anything about these things, we are very far from this. Some things need to happen like the temple of Jerusalem, the arch of Noah, etc...

tadman your 2 cents is worth a lot more-good stuff as a triggerman is the key in college football. Someone has got to step up. Kelly will train them well but I'm looking for a in your face lets get it done guy. Meaning a guy who isnt elected captain once a week but the teams says THAT is our leader and HE is our captain.
