I guess I'm just so used to USC getting 5* afer 5* that when a virtual unknown comes out and takes up the next spot on the USC committment list for the 2008 year It leaves me kind of suprised and....dare I say happy[/url]

If the Poodle gave him an offer I'm guessing he has quite a bit of football ability. Just because the people at Rivals or Scout don't have a lot of film on him or knowledge about him doesn't mean he's just going to be adverage. I'm not saying he won't turn out to be adverage, but I trust the judgement of people like Carroll and Weis over the limited judgement of the people at the recruting services.

Yeah, I get the feeling he's not as bad as his profile suggests. From what I've read he ran the second fastest 40 time at the USC camp and had a 37'' vertical. The guy is an athlete and like Gipper said, Carrol offering him means more than recruiting sites imo. Still, I wouldn't consider him an ''elite'' player that USC is capable of getting.

He could be an athlete, but I've read that he has little or no Saftey experience and this might be his first season at Saftey....or on defense for that matter. It is a gamble no matter how you slice it. I guess USC can afford gambles, but they don't really have to.

"It's working now for Notre Dame because they're getting the great players," Lemming said. "I would say it's a horrible move if they're bringing in three-star players, but almost everybody is a four- or five-star, so how do you complain about early commitments?"

Well it's another late night for me for I will be in NY for tomorrow night and most of the next day. Anyway Compton has said that the ND staff has told him we will take 5 LB's this year and that if one of the 3 offered LB's commit anywhere else he'll get an offer. Since one of those 3 is Hale, I'd say look for him to get offered. I also feel is Sabino doesn't get "wowed" and commit on his visit for some reason I just don't feel he'll come back or come here at all. Which leaves Filer who'll be visiting later this month, but still will take his sweet ass time in deciding. That is all...

With the Corwin vibes, and the thin state of depth at linebacker, I think Sabino may take some time, but I think we're a bigger player than most of us think. He's not a native Floridian, so its a little different than most instances - I think we stand a better chance than most people think.

Forgive me if I'm confused, but don't the Irish have 4 linebackers offered, in Hale, Brown, Filer, and Sabino? Or are they treating Brown completely separate of the LB equation... I'm confused on this one.

Man, Chris Leak was supposed to be so special coming out of high school. I guess he did win a National Title but individually he underachieved imo.

Yeah. He didn't win the trophy himself, that's for sure. He had some good talent that helped him out.

On Goodman at the AA combine........

“I don’t want to make this a racial thing,” says Lichtenfelts, recruiting director for scout.com, a national Internet recruiting service, “but you see this big, skinny white kid, and he’s just destroying everybody. You’re going to stick out.

“He made play after play. I hesitate to compare him to other players, but he could be the guy who replaces Samardzija. He’s that bigger-type receiver. He’s very polished.”

The news on Goodman is very encouraging. More encouraging is the news on Crist. Fundamentally better than Clausen? That's saying something, since Clausen is the fundamentally best QB on our roster, in my opinion. I mean, I'll take it for what it's worth, but it's still surprising, in a good way.

Southern Cal picked up another offensive line commit today - Daniel Campbell, OG prospect out of Texas. It's becoming apparent that the USC's OL class has joined the "elite" ranks of Nebraska and OSU. Campbell is rated as a 4 star player by both rivals and scout, giving them 4 Olineman rated as 4 stars or higher.

-------Man are you serious? I was hoping he'd go to LSU. They have put OSU's OL haul to shame.

If we get Jenkins, I think it's at best a draw(or slight lean to Ohio State). If we get Jenkins, all 4 of our O-line recruits will be Scout five stars. That's ridiculous.

Not always though. All of our O-lineman were offered by the elite(Adams and Brewster were for sure offered by USC on signing day, and Shugarts may have been, but I'd have to check that). Brewster even had one of Meyer's mysterious "commitable offers"(whatever the hell that means...). I'm just saying, our guys will be just as highly ranked. They might end up having one more than us(we're taking four max, three if Jenkins re-commits to WVU), but regardless of what Rivals says, we got the best lineman from Ohio and Florida, and one of the top two linemen from Texas. That's impressive no matter what rankings you like.

----True either way I hate USC and their recruiting. They'll probably have the #1 class again.

I'd agree with both of those sentiments. I was originally thinking Oklahoma would take number one, but they've slowed down recently, and I'm not so sure they get Arthur Brown simply because of his younger brother and that they've already taken two RBs this year. Florida is still an enigma, so who knows about them. I think USC, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and two of FSU/Miami/Florida will be battling for the top spot. If Ohio state finishes with Goebel, Hale, Pryor, Jenkins, Cordale Scott(similar player to your John Goodman, though he might play safety), one of Filer/Sabino, one of Keith Wells/Quinton Coples, then we'll have a fighting chance for the top spot. Then again, USC will probably take 5 of the top ten that haven't commited and reclaim it on signing day. But I digress...*sigh*

Edit: I think this is the correct thread for this, so I'll just throw this in here. There's a new recruiting centric site being started by the guys over at buckeyeplanet. Right now it's mostly midwest based, but they're trying to make it encompass teams from all regions. They need visitors and people with knowledge related to specific teams, so I'm sure a lot of people here would be appreciated. They run a tight ship when it comes to flaming, trolling, posting premium information, and bashing recruits, so everyone is usually pretty nice. Here's the link in case anyone is interested:

Recruiting Planet

There are specific forums for each team, and they could really use ND fans and their input.

Edge goes to USC. Especially since they aren't done at O-Line yet and are in on some really top talented players (Daniel Campbell, Khaled Holmes Hamani Stevens). Coming 2nd to this class is definately still strong and any other year would probably be 1st. This O-line class is deep this year.

I'm more than happy with the class we're bringing in this year, regardless of how USC is doing. As GS said, any other year it would be a first for sure, and it still has a great chance to be if we finish strong.

This post from their Michigan forum isn't very nice.

"We are talking about Charlie Weis here. The man has Zero class with a capital Z.

He rubbed Michigan coaches the wrong way his first year on the job when he showed up to the Ann Arbor Nike combine on UM's campus and was showing off his Super Bowl rings and being as obnoxious as ever. You know he actually showed up at Terrelle Pryor's high school and asked him something along the lines of how does it feel to get an offer to become the next great receiver at Notre Dame. Pryor's high school coach actually had to ask Weis to leave.

Charlie Weis would be a nobody and nowhere without Michigan. Without Tom Brady he's just a nobody co-ordinator in the NFL. Did you see his defensive recruiting classes his first two seasons at Notre Dame before he hired Corwin Brown? They were a flat-out joke. Have you seen the defensive class that Corwin Brown has put together for Charlie the Hutt so far? It's among the top defensive classes in the nation thus far."

Pryor is quarterback, is he not? And I think it's "Without Charlie Weis Tom Brady is just a nobody backup quarterback in the NFL". Dumb Michigan fans.

I think you're wrong. He'd definitely be a QB at Ohio State(and WVU, Penn State, and Tennessee IMO). He needs to improve his mechanics to get a consistent throwing motion, but it's nothing a good QB coach can't work with, and when you take into account how great of an influence such an elite athlete can have at the QB position, then I think it's a no brainer he stays at QB.

He'll be a good one, especially when given a good line and better receivers and good coaching. He's raw, but he has more potential than any other player in this class IMO.

He would be a QB at those schools because they don't have one committed this year. Charlie has to stay loyal to Dayne when he told him that they were only taking one QB. The only way ND takes Pryor is if he comes in as a WR. Charlie was just trying to get him excited about that idea. Obviously he's not.
