This is a thread started about whats going on recruiting wise with our rivals like UM and USC and so on. Who they pick up and how that affects us. Also for recruits like Will Hill or Chauncey A. that have slimmed there list down to not include us.

I'll get it started.....

----Michigan picked up a verbal from DT Mike Martin the day after Omar Hunter commited to ND. Martin is a 4* from rivals, but doesn't come close to the offer list or raw ability as Hunter though. It's a solid pickup, but nothing of great importance.

I saw some film on Martin. Won't say that makes me an expert on him, but its not like I'm a complete jamoke for saying what I'm about to.

He's a good defensive line prospect, but he's no Omar Hunter. Martin looked like he was going up against the same kind of competition as Omar, but he wasn't dominating in the same way. Hunter is simply a superior athlete, with his speed and tenacity. I didn't have any "wow" moments looking at Martin, while I had a couple looking at Omar. Theres a reason Omar was extended an offer before Martin by the Wolverines. He's a nice consolation though, definitely not a slouch.

Martin plays for CC. CC has some of the best if not the best competition in the state. They have to play Brother Rice, Orchard Lake St. Mary's, U of D Jesuit, and my current school, State Championship Runner Up, De La Salle. De La Salle lost in the states to Ronald Johnson. If De La Salle lost to them by 2, and CC only lost to DLS by 14 or so. Then it just shows that he plays good competition.
My friends had to try and block Martin, and the two of them together could barely move him.
The point I guess I'm making is that, although we gained Hunter, who am I extremely excited for. Michigan losing him and gaining Martin really does not lose anything for Michigan.

Quick additional information on laxkid23's comments regarding competition that Martin plays against. Brother Rice class of 2007 is sending the following onto play Div I football:
1. David Zaske - Syracuse
2. Chris Colasanti - Penn State
3. Darris Sawtelle - Tennessee
4. Dan Youssif - Eastern Michigan
5. Mike Cappetto - Duke (guess this is barely Div I)
6. Kaunda Hancock - Toledo

In addition, five others will be playing at schools below Div I such as Penn, Valpo, St. Joes, Ferris St. and Hillsdale. I'd say that's pretty good competition.

Petey's also been seen in the Lakewood area of OHIO recruiting these two future linebackers...Can never start too early.

If you add those to my big man, we got 3/4 of a fearsome foursome.

Florida is a rival in my book even tho we don't play them.. Dee Finley :s::s::s::s: ranked as the #2 saftey just commited to the cockwad. Obviously he's worthy.

He's ranked very highly and thats probably what Urban goes on to accept verbals.

If that were completely true, then why did he turn down Jonas Gray, who is Top 50 on Rivals.

Anecdotal information also seems to suggest that he also put Sweat on the slow burner, and possibly Forst and Jeremy Brown as well, and who knows how many others.

With the Cockwad I'm afraid the answer is never that simple. He seems to do everything based on an agenda. He does not even really need a Safety in this class after what he hauled in last year, and although Finley is Top 100 on all three boards, he is only rated very elite by ESPN. I still think accepting Finley was mostly just sticking it in Auburn's face, and by extension warning the rest of the SEC that he can get anyone he wants, even your hometown kids.

As most people already know USC picked up another 5* offensive tackle today in Tyron Smith. Well Rivals has him ranked as the 2nd best OT in the country....just wonderful. He has size similar to Lane Clelland so he's athletic and will need a couple of years probably to put weight on and become dominant. USC now has 3 top ranked OT's this year in Matt Meyer( Rivals 4 star/Scout 5 star) and Matt Kalil(5 f'n star everywhere.) Not to mention they will probably land legacy Khaled Holmes who is a 4* caliber OG. They are very much in the top of favorites for Dan Cambell...and some other top OL who don't even have a USC offer yet! I never thought the OSU O-line haul could be top, but good god I think it will. The USC recruiting train shows no mercy....I guess these recruits don't beleive that Poodle will be leaving for the NFL soon enough when some team gives him full control.

I'm not sure that it is going to take Smith too long to add weight - he is a physical specimen. The picture on his profile was in the summer prior to his Junior year. He is now 6'6" and Rivals lists him at 264 lbs. My guess is by the time he enters USC - he will easily be 280. I think he'll be ready.

Rocko Khoury committed to Michigan today making him the 4th OL committed to them so far this year. Their O-line recruiting has not been impressive to say the least. All of their OL commits so far are from players who really didn't have offers from the ones they should. Wermers was an Indiana boy who didn't get an offer from ND, but Braxston did and Michigan offered Cave. Dan O'Neill has decent offeres, but he wanted an ND one and did not get it. Elliott Mealer was practically begging for a homestate offer from OSU and it was his dream school and did not receive one. Any other year maybe he would've gotten one, but it's not the case this year. Had has "ok" offers, but no big boys. Lastly, Rocko's most impressive offers were from MSU, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan not one out of stater. It's not like recruits have to be scared by UM's OL depth chart quite like ours after the 2006 haul of the decade. So I ask this question....Does this future UM line scare you so far?

I don't want to start a new thread for this, but it's a good article.

South Bend Tribune

"Corwin is undefeated as a defensive coordinator," CSTV recruiting analyst Tom Lemming said. "He's selling his own brand of defense. He's selling the idea kids can come in next year and play. He's selling education. He's selling everything. And a lot of that is the reason Notre Dame is on pace to have its best recruiting year in years."

Obviously, he's a kick-butt salesman. If you do it the right way...ND sells itself. Then it comes down to personalities.

Michigan just received a verbal committment from QB John Wienke. He's not a top tier QB and has average offers. Seems like ND stocks a top QB the year after snagging the best and Michigan takes the #2 QB last year and can only get a middle of the field QB...hmmm

In the same day they received a committment from Wienke Michigan nabbed another much bigger recruit in Daryl Stonum. He had offers from USC and UF so he's no slouch. Impressive pick up for what is shaping up to be a good class for them. Not quite on ND's level (But imagin if all those Michigans locks accually went there) but still a good one. It'll be interesting to see how they finish. Stonum is good, but isn't on Floyds level for all the recruiting sites have Floyd higher. So as Michigan pulls a another good prospect at each position, Notre Dame has a better one at each position.

They'll get theirs, but I tend to agree with you that Notre Dame will end up with a better haul. They need guys like McGuffie, Hale, and Baldwin if they want to get back in the ballpark with Notre Dame's recruiting class. And even at that, I'm not so sure that they'd be able to edge out ND.

USC got a committment today from 3* Saftey (Both Rivals and Scout) Drew McAllister. He has zero info about him on Rivals and is the 27th ranked S on Scout. I guess I'm just so used to USC getting 5* afer 5* that when a virtual unknown comes out and takes up the next spot on the USC committment list for the 2008 year It leaves me kind of suprised and....dare I say happy?

I'm guessing that now, since he's commited to the men of Troy, he'll end up being a high 4* or low 5* prospect. Just have that feeling, not that I'm worried about it or really care. I like the prospects we have left not to mention the class that we've put together already.

Go Irish!!!
