ISD freebie offering some insights as to some 2020 Defensive Recruits
https://irishsportsdaily.com/s/7563/2020-defensive-outlook

The in-state prospect has made multiple visits to South Bend. He’s landed several big-time offers, but seems to be focused most on Notre Dame, Ohio State, Iowa, Penn State and Wisconsin. He likes the tradition, education and alumni connections that Notre Dame offers and seems to have a strong relationship with Mike Elston, both his area recruiter and potential position coach. In addition to Notre Dame, Brevard has made a stop at Penn State with plans for stops at Wisconsin, Michigan and Indiana in the coming weeks.

Since his profile was updated, Brevard has received offers from Tennessee, Michigan St, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oregon, Clemson, Mizzou, and Wazzu.

He visits Clemson this weekend for their Junior Day and Wiltfong just added a CB for them. Definitely seems like the type of guy to be taken right under Notre Dame's nose (Emil Ekiyor style). He might have academic hurdles or other issues preventing him from going to ND, but he's been to ND 3 times (3/3/18, 4/21/18 & 9/1/18) and nothing seems to be coming from those visits. We'll see, but I think he's heading somewhere other than ND. It is a shame because he fits perfectly into the NT spot in Clark Lea's defense.

Yeah something is up with this one. He should be easy pickings for ND.

It's pretty simple really, they just like Aidan K more. Sounds like we lead, he's a perfect fit, and a heck of a football player himself.

Yes but don;t you think they should take 2 DT's this cycle given the injuries to Franklin and Spears? Why not just take Aidan and Cole and be done with it.

Because they like Mills. Mills is already 275 and projects as an ideal swing DL. Would be solid at all techniques 3-5.

We're probably looking at a board that goes Aidan K at NT, Mills at 3T, McGregor at SDE, another SDE, and a WDE. Mills could probably start at SDE during the 20' season as we'll need some immediately help at that position. Then he'll move inside as other members of his class develop physically.

That makes sense. I thought I read a 247 form Sinclair that they were also looking at Aidan at 3tech as well. He reminds me of PJ Mustipher.

They are probably taking 2 DT's this cycle, but I don't think it will be two NT types. I didn't love last year when the staff had Jowon Briggs, Mazi Smith, Jacob Lacey, Hunter Spears, and Rodas Johnson all really interested but ended up with two of them. However, after seeing what Mike Elston produced with the line in 2018, how the recruiting of the DLine finished up in the 2019 cycle (probably 5 4*'s coming in), and how I have no experience with recruiting in football what so ever, I will side with Mike Elston and the staff's strategy for recruiting the DLine right now. Of course, as a fan, I am greedy and I would love it if Jowon Briggs came on board as a 3rd DT, but there are things that fans don't know about the recruiting world that could be happening. For example, Elston could've told Lacey and/or Spears that they were only recruiting 2 DT's so as not to scare them away with an overcrowded signing class. Also, recruiting 3 DT's in the same class might cause more roster turnover with too many guys not getting enough playing time. That's probably what is going to happen to the 6 DB's and 5 WR's in the same class last season. If Elston can reel in another 5 4*'s on the DLine in the 2020 recruiting class then I really don't care how he goes about his business.

I wouldn't get so caught up in positions, though I realize I just explained it as such. They are looking for players that can do multiple things well, which allows them to be multiple with their techniques (3, 5, etc.). But one of those qualities is a guy that can play the NT and just like with Lacey, it doesn't mean he's not good at anything else. It's just an ideal position from a depth chart perspective.

Last year Tillery was our "1T", this year he was our 3T. And he routinely lined up in techniques that weren't either of those. Just as an example.

How do we lose a in state kid to penn state

Didn't lose him. ND wasn't recruiting him any longer. They obviously like Kahuna and Mills more... and they're gonna get them.

In a different year, maybe it goes another way. Brevard seems to be an RKG in everything I've read or interview I've watched.

The kids coming out of high schools and colleges these days have pretty poor handwriting since it isn’t practiced nearly to the extent it used to be.……..most of it looks like poor grade school handwriting.
