Lovie Smith doing work.

He went out and hired StL Trinity's HC in an attempt to get some of that StL talent. Will be interesting to see how that works out.

You could do much worse as a DB/LB than going to UofI with it's prospect of early playing time for one of the better defensive minds, especially the backend, in the game. That's a recipe for NFL type development.

The fact that you can also get a great education if you choose to is there too. Some of the smartest folks I know are Illini grads.

they get on kids super early and offer EVERYBODY. Bound to get traction at some point.

They do, I suppose, have a decent track record recently of sending DL to the league (Mercilus, Liuget, Spence, Ward, Smoot in the last 5-6 years). Just sort of glaring to see Illinois up there with the usual suspects.

One of these things is not like the other...

True, but it's also common for prospects to put out top 4/5/8's whatever, with the first major school that offered them. Even though there isn't much intention of actually going there.

It is a smart move.. Why U of I hasn't done anything with any of the coaches from Chicago, Peoria or St. Louis is beyond me.. If you keep in state talent for hoops to ILL it would be impressive.

Zook did well recruiting there but they haven't had good teams since that Rose Bowl squad with Juice Williams/J Leman.

Gonna go out on a limb here and say he doesn't stick with Illinois.

It literally says he was still in Champaign when he tweeted that/committed. Taking a few days to let the emotions subside tends to be a solid idea. Especially when you already decommitted from a school after being committed for a month during your sophomore year.

I don't know the backstory but Lovie (or someone on his staff) has an in at Bishop Dunne. He got Beason this cycle and last year he got ND DT offer Calvin Avery and 3* or 4* OL Keven Myers from there.

There's another Beason coming next year too and he's got a bunch of big P5 offers already.
