We missed on the wrestler from MI during the Weis years. The kid went to Michigan instead and had a nice career.

Hmmm..I actually really like this kid. Pretty damned powerful. High motor, really quick feet and has good use of hands. Good tackler and his pursuit is great. Seems tough. I could actually see him playing some SDE. I wouldn't mind if he committed to ND one bit!

Allen also said kid said he wasn't sure if he would visit. Don't think this one goes anywhere.

ND under Elko is supposedly is going to be moving away from DT as a SDE type defense.

Kendrick Green offered by Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Peoria (Ill.) High defensive tackle Kendrick Green had a special football season this fall to start what will wrap up a special high school career as he helped lead his team to a state championship.

An Illinois commit, the 6-foot-4, 270-pound Green is a three-sport athlete that will leave his community as a 12-time letter-winner.

"He just worked so hard," Peoria coach Tim Thornton said. "Comes in the weight room in his baseball uniform in the middle of the spring and gets there for last 20 minutes of weights and makes sure he gets the important stuff in."

247Sports ranks Green as the nation's No. 26 defensive tackle and No. 6 recruit overall in the state of Illinois. He gave his verbal to the Illini last month over offers from Iowa, Minnesota and Syracuse among others. Since then Arkansas, Ole Miss and now Notre Dame have offered.

"His toughness, his leadership, he really bought into the culture of the program," Thornton said. "He was a guy every one could look to when times got tough, he could make a play and we knew he had the right response to whatever we were dealing with."

Although Green projects best as a menace on the defensive front, Thornton believes he would be a "great center" as well.

"I think his explosiveness and speed and combination he brings with that is pretty special," Thornton added.

One major reason Green chose to play for the Illini was because of Lovie Smith and his NFL experienced coaching staff. An all-around athlete he has all the traits to be playing on that level down the road.

Any idea how strong his commitment is?

I have no idea but his visit schedule shows he took 4 OV's and none after his Illini visit on 12-9. He then committed on 12-22. There's been no documented flirting going on.

Minnesota - 9-23
UCF - 11-4
Iowa 12-2
Illinois 12-9

Something's up. Just pulled up his Twitter account that I listed above and it no longer exists. Either he wants to flirt or Lovie & the boys called him up and got on him for retweeting others' tweets regarding his ND offer.

really? Is it really that hard to understand that ND of late that the SDE has been used more as a DT than as a DE.

No, but it seems like people have forgotten that Jay Hayes was supposed to be the starter at WDE, per reports during camp.

Did he retweet congrats and all of that when he received other offers? Maybe he just likes getting congratulated for receiving another offer and it has nothing to do with ND at all?

I rewatched his film and have some questions about him. The competition he's playing doesn't look great. I like his motor and use of hands and apparent toughness but we all ready have two DT's in this cycle, have decent depth all ready and we have much more pressing needs - DE, WR, S and now CORNER.

All I know is the University on Illinois puts a ton of first round DL and OLB in the league. So I say sign him up.

I grew up in Peoria. While he may not play the best competition week-in and week-out, the Central Illinois region is an up-and-coming football area. Plus, his team won state in one of the larger Illinois divisions. There's a few DI prospects coming up in Peoria-Central HS. Lots of athletes who used to focus solely on basketball and coming around to playing Football for the new coach they have.
