USC defensive end Connor Murphy has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, according to a source. The redshirt senior will be a graduate transfer should he end up leaving the university.

Murphy had hoped to see more playing time in defensive coordinator Todd Orlando's new scheme, but never cracked the starting lineup. The defensive lineman played 117 total snaps over course of six games in 2020, averaging 19.5 downs a game. Murphy played a season-high of 24 defensive downs against Washington State and finished with a 63.6 grade, according to Pro Football Focus.

Ultimately, the consensus four-star prospect never found a consistent role with USC's defense line during his five years. Murphy saw action in 50 games (two starts) with 18 career tackles, 1.5 TFL, one sack, two forced fumbles and a blocked kick.

I've heard from locals he never "fit in" and was expected to transfer every year but he rode it out.

I saw him play Pinnacle when Spencer Rattler was a Fr. and he was legit. You would've thought he was best fit for a 3-4 DE but maybe he would've been better off bulking up and being a stretch DT like Tillery. How they kept him under 280lbs is a miracle.

Bottom line, ND didn't miss on any DE's in 2016. Case studies of Gilmore's '16 haul will be studied as long as there is organizations that recruit.

So shout out to TP for finally beating me on a call.
