Wondering if that 4.53 is legit...... the bench isnt overly impressive, but for a tall guy with long arms, its not horrible either.
Being named a co-leader cant be a bad sign for us, but the texas tech thing makes me wonder.
A couple of thoughs/comments.
Stevenson is a WR projected to play TE at the next level. He's a tall WR that worked out with the TEs at the US Army Combine.
I don't know where the 4.53 was run. He ran a 4.86 at the US Army Combine but as discussed in other treads the US Army Combines had very high 40's across the board. The fastest time run was a 4.55. Only 7 of the 500 athletes recorded a time under 4.7. Stevenson's 4.86 (which sounds like a TE's time) was actually the 34th fastest time at that combine.
By reference Rivals lists WR James Driskell with a 4.44 40 in his Rivals profile but he ran a 4.75 at the USA Combine. WR Hakeem Flowers being recruited by ND has a 4.4 listed by Rival but ran a 4.85 at the USA Combine. WR Jermal Hosley also an ND recruit has a 4.46 listed in his Rivals profile but ran a 4.88 40 at the USA Combine which was slower than Stevenson's time. ATH Quentin Gause ran a 4.83 then but is listed at 4.5
I don't know where Rivals got those other 40 times for Driskell, Flowers, Hosley, Gause, and Stevenson as Rivals initially reported the USA Combine times. Bottom line, Stevenson ran a comparable 40 at the USA Combine with those other WR recruits now listed with times all well below the 4.53 Rivals lists for Stevenson but in the same order of magnitude as Stevenson. Either Stevenson can run or the others can't.
At the USA Combine Stevenson ran a 4.24 second shuttle which was the 34th best time. Again by comparison Driskell had a 4.38 shuttle, Flowers 4.47, and Jermal Hosley 4.31 all slower than Stevenson's time. Maika Polamalu a DB being recruited by ND had a 4.15 shuttle.
Stevenson's bench number doesn't look like a TE but then he's not a TE, he's a WR and Stevenson's number is comparable with WRs. He's not a "strong man" -yet. His USA 18 reps were only the 69th best - of 500 participants. But he benched one less rep than ND offeree Strongside Defensive End Anthony Chickillo.
Which leads to the thought we need to keep in mind, these are Juniors. They have 18 months until they can step on a Div 1 field.
