Hope Brown is paying attention to this defensive haul we are pulling in!!

“I look at the recruits that each school is bringing in,” Brown said. “As a great athlete, you also want to be surrounded by other great athletes.”

Well I'm as hopeful as anyone to land a stud, Brown also can't ignore the haul that Oklahoma's pulling in -- and their supposedly (nothing confirmed) one of the favorites for his services.

Yep, I didn't want to add that sour news to the Will Hill somewhat sour news in light of the great news of yesterday. It seems that both Arthur & the Thrill are becoming less and less likely viable prospects for ND. However, it's good to find this out as soon as possible so that there would be no need to hold schollies for these 2 guys, especially in light of the number of Irish commits already.

Brown is a longshot, but I have heard rumblings that he may plan a visit to ND some time this summer. If that happens it means ND has a shot. Don't count him out just yet.

Was either viable to begin with?

You don't hear either one say much about ND. No big deal on either one as far as I'm concerned.

I've haven't seen anything positive come from Will Hill. As far as Jersey goes, give me Hafis Williams and Art Forst over Beal and Hill and I'll gladly take that running.

I can't agree with that statement. We are talking about the best LB and the best athlete in the country here, and it would be no big deal to lose out on them only if you were 100% certain that you had 0% chance of landing them as a recruit. If that were the case in CW's mind why bother with the offer. No matter what you think of ND's chances in successfully recruiting guys like Brown & Hill, it is still a big deal to lose out on them if you are hoping to attract the most elite national recruits on an annual basis in order to set yourself up to contend for a NC year in and year out.

Didn't he still promise an unofficial visit this summer? He's a longshot we all know, but he's visiting and CB will sit him down and talk. Thats all we can ask for, a visit.

Totally agree. I mean, it's June, guys. Should they be giving up on any elite talent just yet?

Well, ND probably only has about 8-9 spots left at the most.

Okay, understood on that. I guess what I meant is that it's early summer and these kids still haven't started taking official visits yet, which I think we all agree could really turn some heads. Granted, there are private conversations that occur between recruits and coaches that may cause them to be a little more choosy, or spend less effort here or there. But the bottom line is just that it is still so early in the recruiting year.

I think we have 9-10 spots left but no means give up a elite talent. I think we just wasted a scholarship on Brown. I just do not see him coming to ND. I know he a midwest kid. He's a great linebacker I would love to have him but I just don't see the evidence that he will end up in South Bend.

with O H coming on board I now am open to any possibilities...we are putting together a National Championship team...elite players want to play with elite players...and we have a heck of a lot of momentum going folks

GG had the same numbers I'm thinking. We have 14 right now. Say we have a transfer, I'll think we'll entertain up to 9 more spots for this year's class. Anymore and we are running dangerously thin on scholarships for next year's recruiting class.

It's all a risk/reward calculation. If you have a 10% chance of getting the best LB in the country, role the dice. There are plenty of other elite players that ND has not offered because they just don't fit. Weis and CB have talked to Brown and must believe that they have a shot.

Get him and his parents on the golf cart with Charlie and everything can change. Just ask Omar.

It's not a matter of wasting a scholarship offer on Brown. We hold an offer for him and fill our class assuming he does not come. If he comes, we don't give a 5th year to someone or maybe recommend a transfer (I hate saying that).

He's not coming. He came out with his top three schools-Oklahoma, Miami, and USC.

Where did you hear that? I don't doubt it, but hearing him talk at the Nike camp made it seem like he, very recently, had a longer list which was going to take a little time to reduce.

Those were the 3 schools that stood out the most to him at this point, but hasn't even come close to narrowing his list yet and promised CB a visit this summer so we'll take it from there.

On ESPN's briefing room it states something to the effect of those three teams will be there in the end. Not sure about the others and nothing is concrete.

Also, if ND is hot as they are right now when they hit field. A 10-2 record and BCS appearance and win. These players would jump on board with the stable yet ultra talented base of commitments. THIS is what the USC's, Florida's of the world accomplish to strengthen their recruiting. The fact these players would be just icing on the cake plays to our advantage.

I hate to say it, but I think a lot of domers are going to be pretty disappointed if they think we'll even be in the BCS next year. The last time some of our key players had meaningful contact was in their high school playoffs. Wait until they meet the Georgia Tech defense, it'll be a little bit different.

Don't get me wrong, I'm hoping for the best, but everybody (especially recruits) needs to understand how young and inexperienced we are. There's going to be a lot of growing up to do.

HeliND: That's a darn good suggestion, especially if are not successful in getting a top speedster running back to commit soon...before the season starts, that is! With the stable of running backs at ND now, we can afford to be very picky. Like your idea lots.

Thats not what I expect. It was just a theory. Expectations are for suckers. Never expect anything or it won't happen.

Scout.com: The Butler Said It

Arthur Brown is finally getting into recruit mode; apparently he is now very focussed on sorting out the schools that he wants to visit. He also indicates that he has no favorites at this point, but will narrow a list down to 10 schools and do officials. He may visit for the USC game (that may also be to see the Trojans; but he also has interest in the Irish). He wants to play Outside LB, cause he wants to stay at the lower weight.

One other interesting tidbit from Allen Wallace in this story:
-apparently Arthur's family has adopted Bryce Butler, who has moved to Kansas, changed positions, and is potentially the top running back for 2009. Not sure if Brice/Bryce had to petition for a red-shirt in order to fall back into the HS class of 2009. Wow, is Allen Wallace a crack reporter!!!!:clown:  Makes you wonder if he got anything right in the article????

It is kind of a confusing and poorly written article, but when they say Bryce, they mean Arthur's younger brother. Brian Butler is someone I haven't heard of until this article but it sounds like he is helping out the Brown's with the recruitment process.

"Bryce will be the No. 1 running back recruit in the nation next year," he said. "(Pete) Carroll, (Bob) Stoops and (Urban) Meyer all said that Bryce is the best tailback they have ever seen, period"

----Urban, Stoops and Poodle all saying that again? I thought Stoops said that to McGuffie. Same coaches different recruit and they just eat it up.

I knew that it was intended to mean Bryce BROWN; that's why the  :clown:  were added.

Point was that Allen Wallace is not the most accurate reporter/analyst (Golf Cart tour). Here he is talking about one of the highest profile recruits for 2009, and he can't even get the last name right.
