Disturbing trend for Notre Dame?

Not a fan of Lemming at all, but nothing he said was wrong. They lost too many of their recruits and must do a better job in the 2013 class.

I disagree. It happens at every school. Look at Prestwood and Amir this year.

Plus I will still stand by that David Perkins didn't maintain the grades to get into ND.

Not to mention if you WIN, kids won't decommit!

Disagree all you want.
The fact is, this class took huge hits with decommits...Darby, Decker, and Greenberry changed their minds before signing...Perkins, yes indeed, couldn't keep his grades up...and Tee leaving hurts the most of all.

It does happen at every school...except the fact that most schools don't lose FIVE BLUE CHIP PLAYERS.

They are not many schools if any that are losing 5 of their best recruits in one year. That's really pathetic. If you lost a player because of academics then you shouldn't have offered him in the first place.

Not to mention ND lost Decker, because Urban stole his position coach. I don't think ND could have made any tweaks to avoid what happened with Decker or Greenburry or Shepard. Darby might be the only one they could have handled differently.

Do you guys remember how many kids transferred from Weis 2006 class?

It happens sometimes, ND was just unlucky this year. Plus they didn't WIN!

Winning will resolve this!

This was a terrible recruiting job by the whole staff, and it's embarrassing to only get 16 recruits, including only THREE at defensive back. That's horrible and very disturbing. The decommits are a terrible sign.

That was a terrible recruiting class that didn't win any games after their freshman years. A repeat of that class is a disaster.

You are correct...We should just go back to the days of Willingham running recruiting show.

Jeez they had an unfortunate luck this past season.

I believe Kelly is recruiting better than Weis, Willingham and Davies did.

They had the best young recruiter in the country jump ship. No shocker there.
Don't forget Penn State's class.

Different situations...similar (if not worse) results.

The staff dropped the ball this year, plain and simple. Making excuses for them won't do us any good. Last year was too damned good a recruiting haul for it to happen twice in a row. Gonna need some more wins to keep pulling in classes like that.

This class was a epic fail.... It was somewhat ok with Tee being a part of it but now it really is a head shaker. 16 commits is like we put ourselves on probation.

Will wins cure all? Can't hurt but when will those wins come? Next year it is going to be a absolute grind.

I agree that they had a string of terrible luck...and that the staff can and will do a better job in keeping the talent...but that doesn't mean it didn't happen.

Kelly is definitely recruiting better than any of those three....beyond CB I'd say that there is quality depth at every position.

Yep if you win they will come.

But, in that article it doesn't mention anything about winning. Maybe if ND had been in a BCS game, look at Michigan, the recruits would have stayed. But, Lemming doesn't mention anything about winning in that article.

In my eyes blaming the staff is related to the wins, or lack thereof...not saying that you all see things as I do...but that goes into it in my mind.

Don't worry Sherm...that D line should help make those wins stack up.

So when will we win? Next year? Imagine if we struggle next year what recruiting will be like. This is the year he need to ramp up with some blue chippers.

It sucks...EJ Banks couldn't make the grades to stay in at ND, Spencer Boyd EEs, but realizes he wants to stay close to his child, Okotcha finally gets his OU offer and spurns ND at the last moment, Tee doesn't workout when he EEs. Bad luck. Granted the staff should have probably targeted more CB prospects.

BTW with all the RB/slot type players on the team I think the staff really has to give Russel a look at CB

ND definitely isn't for everyone...it's almost like a recruiting curse haha.

Lemming gave some good advice....lock up the midwest talent...the midwest is stocked full of talent this year...

He's kind of right bud. We shouldn't have lost that many key recruits and we should concentrate more effort in our hood.

I do think some unique circumstances effected us this year, like Urban's miraculous medical recovery and a cousin abandoning a relative at the last minute.

IMO Notre Dame should not only make sure a highly valued recruit meets our requirements, we should also ask ourselves if we are trying to pound a square peg into a round hole, if ya know what I mean.

Luck had nothing to do with it. They lost too many games last year and lost in recruiting as well. Kelly is no better than the previous three coaches until he proves it and wins more games.

Shrug...I'm probably just blinded by my dislike for lemming.

I do agree that ND needs to own the Chicago area.

I know how ya feel buddy, I hate when I hear anything negative about Notre Dame Football.

I'm still very excited about the class we do have this year and disagree with the poster in this thread that called it an "epic fail". We have a lot of promise this year and the future is looking bright.

The problem is the title. There is no "trend" as we did the EXACT OPPOSITE flipping a bunch of recruits to us the previous year and winning battles we shouldn't have won.

Just a poorly written article but not really incorrect on anything.

As long as the front 7 makes the DBs jobs easy and the QB situation doesn't include Tommy Rees I think this team can match and exceed last year's win total.

But dang...we need CBs something fierce!
