We got burned by a few late defections and unusual circumstances that all happened to turn out against us. A few weeks ago, we had both Darby and Deontay, only a few open spots, were sitting up top for the Armsteads, and Yuri Wright was high on us. We were discussing about if we'd have enough room for all the elite players that wanted to come here and how we'd probably have to possibly turn away a few 4/5 star players. The two defections, the Armsteads falling through, and Wright's suspension/scandal and resulting loss of ND as an option are what hurt us. We were on the verge of a truly elite class. What if we signed a few more 3-stars and didn't have room for those guys? You'd all be complaining about the 3-stars and lack of talent. People just want to complain, I guess.

Love the spin by Kelly! He'd rather play against a guy who doesn't fit with ND (ala Greenberry) than have him on your team for 4 years. OR, you could just be the leader of men that you are being paid 3+ million dollars a year to be and make him fit. This is the same attitude that led us to play a school librarian at qb instead of a guy who will probably be drafted in the first 3 rounds next year after a productive year at KANSAS.

So our last chance to salvage this class is having Darby come back to us, correct? And he announces at 2:30 today I think. That would ease some of the disappointment.

I want to complain! If you remember, ND slow played recruits and when they tried to go back to them, it was too late. Either, the coaches need to do a better job of reading the recruits, or they need to move on. I am not saying Kelly should be fired (wouldn't matter if I did, I am irrelevant, as the rest on here when it comes to hiring and firing), what I am saying is, if 2012 isn't a mind blowing season on the field, the top recruits will not come. Then, a change has to be made or it will be the same ole same ole every year

No, I think people want to acknowledge that only signing 16 guys in one class isn't good...now, or at any time over the next 4-5 years. I think people want to acknowledge that WR and CB were both areas of significant and crucial need...and BK didn't get the players needed there. I think people want to acknowledge that only signing 2 OL in one cycle can be very dangerous. I think people want to acknowledge that losing 3 blue chip recruits, verballed, to your school is not good...at all. And I think people want to acknowledge not getting any late flips, with all of the above mentioned, is not good.

That's not necessarily "complaining," it's being realistic.

Yes, and another good point by bigdefense. All this happened while claiming no room at the inn for guys like Schutt and Ekanem.

GREAT post! I think this all goes back to losing two position coaches and not replacing them with high caliber recruiters! I also agree that any momentum from last year is gone going into spring! 7-5 at best this year fellows...I have seen this time and time again..same chit diferent day!

Kelly needs to learn from what happened during this cycle and adjust his game. If he's smart, and I think he is, he will recognize that he has an ABSOLUTELY golden and rarely afforded opportunity to get inside the head of a decommit by asking Tee to sit down with DG and play 20 questions and then relate to Kelly what went wrong, what the staff did right and, perhaps, what they can or cannot change about ND that inevitably leads to so many recruits leaving them at the altar.

Seriously--take advantage of this and grow.

I honestly think this culminated at the USC game this year. All of the recruits, the night game, and the horrific loss. At the end of the game, I was equally upset with losing as I was with thinking of all the recruits that were there. Had we won that game, not only the season, but this recruiting class, would be completely different.

changed thread name.

Change "emotional" to "rational." We have a class of 16 guys and lost our top 2 speed guys. 16 recruits means that Kelly better be spot on with each evaluation, because there's no room for error in a class that small. Terrible end to the cycle and raises a lot of questions.

Following recruiting is brutal, but it doesn't pay my bills so when the chips are down I just hope these kids produce when they hit the field.

Darby announces in just over an hour., Still holding out hope he comes home to ND. Very slim hope perhaps, but still hope.

Chris Brown is faster than Greenberry.

I'm just trying to get prepared for when the Warchant guys make fun of ND's class tonight.

Obviously he's not as talented right now. Obviously I'd rather have Greenberry. But I'm trying to stay positive somehow. You never know I guess. Maybe Davaris and TJ step up big this year
