The Big 12 still looking to expand - CBSSports.com

by Tom Fornelli
1/25/12

Maybe you thought conferences were done expanding after all the movement we saw before the 2011 season started. After all, nobody was shuffling the deck during the season. Then on Tuesday it was announced that Navy would be joining the Big East for the 2015 season, and it looks like the dominoes have started falling again.

According to The Chronicle (subscription), the Big 12 is once again considering expanding the conference. While nothing is imminent, two sources told the paper that the Big 12 adding at least one new member is "very possible."

That new member would likely be Louisville, ...

BYU and UC are mentioned as well.

louisville seems like a good fit, and i think cincinnatti could compete there as well, maybe not with the elites, but surely with the rest of the pack.

Can someone just put a fork in the BigEast. Its like hitting an animal with your car, but not quite killing it, and watching it limp or crawl to the side of the road.

Yes,,, big fork. Or they should throw in with the ACC and become a super conference

If you told me that a team from Ohio fit in with a bunch of southwestern schools, I'd call you crazy.

Here's what gets me: It's one thing for the Pac 12 schools to say, off the record, that Boise State doesn't fit in academically (Like WSU and Oregon are powerhouse institutions). But the UC going to the Big 12? I think Boise would make sense for that conference and I would say that BSU is on par with UC in terms of academics. The only difference is that UC has good b-ball but then the Big 12 is a football crazed area so f-ball seems like it would be priority one.

If a conference is looking for a football ranking BSU has appeal. If they're looking at TV markets Cincinnati has a lot more TV sets than Idaho.

Markets
#33 Salt Lake City 937,540 homes
#35 Cincinnati 896,090 homes
#112 Boise 261,810 homes

By reference, South Bend #97, Evansville #104, and Ft Wayne #109 are EACH bigger TV markets than Boise.
