I always feel like these things go against us......but it's nice to remember that we win quite a few of these as well.

Once we have a few 11-1, 10-2, and maybe a 12-0 run, these decommits will be a blast fro the past.

Notre Dame will reach full-circle.

I thought it would have happened by now.

But so did the Mayans.

And that crazy preacher man. (Hint:not me. ;))

Good points.......and one could assume this is probably the biggest decision these kads have made in their short lives so the indecision is only natural.

The thing that disappoints me is that most coaches could care less about education, they just want the kid to win games for them.....

I forgot about Chris Martin. It looks like he ended up at a JC but left that school too.

Martin is a HUGE headcase.....he has burned thru schools (and other things)......I remember him dominating at a combine and just destroying OT's.......what a waste of talent

The most interesting tidbit in this article is that a Rivals top 100 football recruit who publicly decommits is TWICE as likely to fail to qualify, dropout or get dismissed as those who stay firm on their commitment. With quite a few guys on that list, here's hoping we buck that trend.

Yeah.
I like to think the support on the "student" side of the student-athlete equation at Notre Dame is better than most places, and that that helps. For instance, in a different world, commit-flipper Everett Golson might have been derailed by early bumps in the classroom, or Aaron Lynch might have struggled. But both seem to be in good shape at this point.

If anything, I think all the flipping represents the ridiculous pressure that gets put on these kids. Some of them, by virtue of upbringing, education, support system, whatever, are better equipped to deal with it than others, and are more likely to make the right decision for themselves the first time (or wait until they know what it is). Often those same traits better equip them to deal with the adjustment to actual college life, and the inevitable challenges. And the coaching carousel certainly doesn't help. That one's all on the coaches, though.

Not to sound like an almighty homer, but I do wonder whether he would have found success and stability had he stuck with his commitment to ND, given the structures and positive peer influences in place.

Very interesting point........I would like to think this kid would have had a better chance to succeed but with all the craziness, changing schools, drugs, etc.....I think he needs a lot of help.
