I like Urban....sorry guys. He is going to make Ohio St nasty.....You can count on that. I'm surprised he wants Hinton, he could do much better.

Kelly said the WRs were poor route runners when he inherited them and the same was said about Tate when he went to the NFL. Also, look at the improvement in blocking by our WRs when Kelly came in. I used to think Ianello was a good coach because of the production we got out of the position, but for that many people to say negative things about our WRs makes me think otherwise.

Kelly likes having coaches on the same page as him, so I think he will reach out to previous assistants.

I think this is right. Floyd and Tate put up huge numbers... but they also had Jimmy Clausen throwing to them. Whatever the criticisms of Clausen, he could throw all the passes and was especially deadly with the deep ball- inflating their numbers. That's one thing we've really been missing this year- the go route.

The ability to run precise routes is less important when the quarterback is that good... that probably masked any imprecision in route running.

We should target Larry Porter the former coach at Memphis. He was National Recruiter of the Year while at LSU and would be a great addition to the staff. His ties to the south would be a great asset.

Interesting. Will Mahone just tweeted:

Quote:
Coach Kelly and coach hinton will be in town the 8th of December

Doesn't necessarily mean they'll be there at the same time or wearing the same school colors though.

I hope this isn't true, but if it is, I wouldn't mind a certain Bus filling the position.

I'm not saying he couldn't be an effective RB coach but would he be able to coach RBs with a completely different style than what he played? Bettis, a pro-style, smash-mouth, run people over type would be trying to coach Cierre and GAIII who are slashing, quick backs running out of a spread.

Most all-time greats don't make the best coaches because they got by with superior talent rather than superior knowledge or technique. The best coaches are often guys that played beyond their athletic capabilities because of their understanding of the game. Bettis is one of the best RBs of all-time and can definitely provide some insight to the position, but I'm not sure that means he'd be a good fit. I'm not saying he couldn't be, I just don't think it's a sure thing.

Per ESPN. If true, this combined with all the reports that Hinton is on the recruiting trail hard for ND are enough to make me think there is no substance to any of the initial rumors.

"Two sources confirmed that Stan Drayton, the Buckeyes' first-year receivers coach this season, will remain at Ohio State after previously working under Meyer as an assistant at Florida," Doug Lesmerises of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reported. "A Cleveland native and John Marshall High grad, Drayton is expected to move back to coaching the running backs, where he had most of his previous coaching experience."

If IE were as talented as Buckeye Nation at conjuring up threads of fiction, we'd have threads titled 12-0.. instead of 12-2.

I mentioned this before...Larry Porter. The guy was money for Les Miles at LSU in recruiting. With the Midwest getting tighter, we need to continue to increase our reach in the South.

Dude did you read the thread? Where are we going to put him if we don't have any openings?
