someone who is smarter than i please respond...

who do we lose next year on the o-line?

nuss, cave, golic, robinson and dever are all listed as seniors on the depth chart (und.com pdf).

is it only cave and golic that have a GS year, potentially, left?

and 2nd part of this question: are there any more o-line guys in the '12 cycle that are high on us or vice versa.

my head is swimming....

So according to that chart, Jonas could come back?

I think the asterisk means they used their 5th year, if they don't have that, they either played all four years or still have a chance for a 5th. In his case, he played all four years if that makes sense.

I like the charts that I have seen that lists their years played i.e. 3V meaning they have played 3 years on Varsity. That way you can tell if they have used up their eligibility or if they have a redshirt year remaining. Not sure if anyone has seen one for ND this year.

Here's my depth/ eligibility chart.*

I found the Rivals eligibility chart hard to understand.

The short answer to the OP's question is that we lose Robinson and Dever as starters, and Nuss as a backup. Cave is a 5Y lock, and Golic could easily play his way into one over the next 3 games.

I expect to see Lombard as the #1 ROT in 2012. #1 ROG is a total toss-up.

Just my opinion, but I actually think it will be the reverse. I think Lombard will slide to RG in place of T-Rob next year, and that Nichols and Nick Martin will battle for RT.

I'm thinking that sounds about right.

Interesting take. What's your reasoning behind that?

If both Golic and Cave get 5Ys, I'd expect Golic to start at ROG. Why do you think N. Martin would make a better ROT than Lombard?

Regarding the O-Line right side: none of us knows what is going on in practice so all of this is wild guessing, but Lombard was projected as a guard from the earliest signing. My belief as to why he is operating at tackle is that Warriner does not have a non-freshman tackle available now that Nichols is hurt and did have both Golic and Nuss for the interior. The listings of both NMartin and guys like Hanratty are feldercarb just to fill the depth chart, as the staff really doesn't want to burn the eligibility this year.

This leaves us with a coming year with no real options as to veteran playing time other than Lombard, and Golic if he is given a fifth. Assuming the latter does not happen, this places Nichols, NMartin, Hegarty, Prestwood, Hanratty, Heggie, Carrico all on equal playing-experience terms regarding filling the two rightside positions.[namely zero].

Imagine that you are Warriner and want to get your two best on the field. Lombard seems to be your only somewhat proven excellent potential guard [despite actually playing some tackle]. Who do you have at tackle? Well, theoretically you're loaded. I make my wild guess that this will be a dogfight between NMartin, Hegarty, Prestwood, and maybe Nichols if he actually turns out to be ready to play [being taller than Mt. Everest ain't enough]. I always thought that this would be Hegarty. But now NMartin is looking as nasty as Zach, and along comes his evil clone Prestwood.

This is a possibility I've considered.

we took 5 last year, so i am very comfortable taking 3 this year. Unless we land Peat late of course. We got to get play makers now! Next year we aim for the standard 4 OL IMO

Barring transfers, draft declarations, fifth years, etc., it looks like a small class next year (should be something like 16-18 spots). I don't know if we can take 4 OL with limited room.
