My take is that both could have behaved better (Harbaugh calming down before the handshake, and Schwartz not reacting like a crazy man) but that everyone out there is blowing this way out of proportion (media, us, etc).

Agreed.

After watching the video, I don't really get why so many people think Harbaugh was in the wrong. Should Harbaugh have saved the celebration until they got back to the locker room? Perhaps, but I don't think that it was anything too huge. However, Schwartz completely lost it and went chasing down the field after him. Just seems like sour grapes on Schwartz's part to me.

Lol. Really? I just watched the video finally and I mean...wow. haha

Harbaugh needs to bring it down a notch. Hell, I learned I had to do that after my first game as a coach. Save til the shaking of hands is done. Schwartz flipped his lid though. We have no idea what was actually said but there shouldn't have been anything that made him chase after Harbaugh like that. In the press conference he said he was shove and there was an obscenity, but he doesn't even say who it was that did either. I know it looked like he ran into Vernon Davis and was probably yelling some obscenities himself though. lol

End all, I agree with pkt77242.

My take is that both could have behaved better (Harbaugh calming down before the handshake, and Schwartz not reacting like a crazy man) but that everyone out there is blowing this way out of proportion (media, us, etc).

Im not a 49ers or Lions fan but dont you guys think Schwartz had this coming also? Not saying Harbaugh did this to **** him off, but Schwartz constantly does outrageous things on sidelines during games. The cowboys game during the review, he was obnoxiously waving his arms to signal an incomplete pass and you could see him saying IMCOMPLETE MOTHER******. Also during todays game he had a tirade over Harbaugh challenging the play. I have been rooting for the Lions lately because they have never been good but damn Schwartz is kind of a douche.

This little spat was nothing. In my opinion, the greatest "coach fight" ever was Buddy Ryan v. Kevin Gilbride. I guess it takes the cake because it was during a game...and they were on the same coaching staff! Now that was a sweet scrap!

Jim Schwartz is a model professional and has never let his emotions get the better of him after a big win...

I'm a Bills fan, so I have absolutely no dog in this fight. In fact, I dislike Harbaugh. But surely, surely, it could not have been that "slap" that kicked it all off. When I heard it described on the radio, I thought Harbaugh gave him a big wack on the back. Then I saw the video, and it was barely anything at all. Harbaugh must have said something. Even then, Schwartz let a whole bunch of nothing get to him, and his reaction blew the entire thing out of proportion. At least he's distracted everyone from his team's first loss.

I think Schwartz going ape-**** crazy about the challenge certainly had something to do with it. Class and respect is a two-way street, and both coaches appear to be in the wrong here.

I like Harbaugh. Who cares about where he went to school, he's a helluva coach and his teams take on his toughness. I like seeing a team pound the ball and play tough D after seeing so many soft spread offenses (we can pound the ball out of ours at least too). Like most here, I'm just happy he's in the NFL and we don't have to deal with him anymore.

He's a bit of an idiot, but whatever. Most often its the guy who retaliates who gets caught, and Schwartz looked like more of an *** that Harbaugh IMO.

Mariucci did a spot on the NFL network...in his normal way too energetic way...he made the point that needs to be made here...

enjoy the moment you win with your guys around you on the sidelines...but somewhere coming across the field, get it together, shake the other coach's hand and treat him with respect...

Harbaugh isn't necessarily so out of line here that people need to hate on him...he was however CLEARLY not very professional as defined by Mariucci, and my experience over the last 35 years of watching this stuff... As exciteable as Harbaugh is...when MARIUCCI, of all people, tells you to ratchet it back...you screwed up.

As well, going ape *** over any aspect relating to officials is what MANY of these guys do...they are always working the zebras for the next one...looking for the payback call...whatever. Thats all in the game, and no coach has the right to personalize ANY of that stuff, so if thats what drove Jimmy to do his thing...IMHO, he's even further out of line.

Both of these coaches are young, energetic, firecrackers. They both acted and looked like jackasses. They are both wrong. Harbough should have the respect to atleast shake the mans hand. And Schwartz should have had the composure to not chase him down the way he did.

Both of these guys made themselves look bad.

Can't argue there...not giving Schwartz a pass...I think he could have laughed it off, and walked away shaking his head...beyond the I'm-15-years-old hand shake, backslap, and comment...Schwartz has gotta know how his reaction would come off.

I think of parcels...generally a hothead...can't see him doing what Schwartz did...and Oh Yea, Parcels would have nailed Harbaugh at some point...Verbally...just not like that...

Harbaugh was too excited and probably rubbed Shwartz the wrong way and maybe even said something. He should have composed himself better. With that said Shwartz went running after him and nudged, him, and got in his face. That was way out of line. If he had not done that this whole situation would have been a non issue. He escalated the situation and made it sports talk banter.

But the thing that the video doesn't tell us, is what Harbaugh may, or may not, have said. Schwartz said something about "not expecting to hear an obscenity". Depending on the alleged obscenity, and the context in which it was used, I could see Schwartz (or any other coach) reacting like Schwartz did.

No you can see a coach reacting like that because it is Harbaugh. He is the X factor that slants many peoples perspective on this board.

I don't care one way or the other, about Harbaugh. Trust me, I'm not above biases; but I will own them when I have them. I don't have a bias either way, with Harbaugh.

I like the turnaround Harbaugh has brought to the Niners. Ever since the team was turned over to Denise DeBartolo (which really means it got turned over to Dr. John York), the Niners have sucked with little regard for public safety. Believe me, I've been a Niners fan for a long, long time and the regime of York has been hard to deal with. But, at least with Harbaugh, they are getting someone who knows HOW to coach the game.

The players respect him more than someone like, say, Mariucci. And, he is much better at the X's and O's than Singletary from a coaching standpoint. Plus, he's worked as hard at changing the culture of winning and losing out there as he has the on-field product. It's weird to think that about a five time Superbowl Champion team, but that's what the Niners have become accustomed to. Bill Walsh would have personally slapped York for letting the ship drift listlessly for so long.
