What will the BCS do if this happens?

It's a mess every year, and especially because it overweights "undefeated" as a ranking factor. Teams can improve dramatically over the course of a season. Someday maybe we will get a tournament and get rid of this phantom No. 1 crap.

I'm a fan of the BCS, I think they, way more often then not, get it right. BCS is what makes CFB great, it drives people crazy, and keeps people involved. A playoff would, I don't care what anyone says, take away from the regular season. Every game matters on any given Saturday.

What I do think needs to be done is to add the element of strength of schedule to the formula with ALOT more weight. We wouldn't have all these undefeateds if teams weren't playing middle Tennessee state, akron, lousiana monroe, e. michigan..etc for the first 5 games. I can understand with 1-2 warm up games, but come on man.

I think that is something the NCAA is going to explore if it wants to keep the BCS system. Every year more and more teams are scheduling easier and easier schedules, eventually, you are going to have a team 12/13-0 who played 10 cupcakes crying about not getting a NC invite

The BCS is fine as it is...

The playoff system will never satisfy the teams that just don't make it and before you know it we will have a playoff with eight teams.

College football is special because every game matters. Playoffs will diminish that. If you want to make sure you are in the Top 2 at the end of the year... win against quality opponents and stop scheduling cupcakes to pad your record.

Only thing I would change about the BCS... play all the games on Jan 1st...

So the remaining undefeated are:

Clemson
Kansas State
Oklahoma State
Oklahoma
LSU
Alabama
Stanford
Wisconsin
Houston
Boise State

Anyone else?

Both Wisconsin and Michigan(want to puck) out of the big10
With Ok or OKST out of the Big12
Clemson or GT out of the ACC
Bama or LSU out of the SEC'
Stanford has a shot from the Pac12
Boise St

Well as usual the regular season does what a playoff is supposed to. Georgia Tech is done, as is Michigan. Boise needs help because it is a non AQ.

We still have potentially 4 undeafted teams but upsets do happen. Still have the entire second half to play out.

You can hope for a playoff, but if you're looking for an end to the controversy of who is No. 1, then you might be interested in a bridge I have for sale.

Someone will always come up with some (reasonably logical) reason why their team should be considered #1, even if they didn't win it on the field. All a playoff will really do is shift the argument from biased voters, to biased seeders. USC will complain that, had they been in the same bracket as ND, they would have walked through it. AND they would have destroyed ND. There will also be a 1 or 2 loss team that wins the NC, and do you really think that some other 1 loss team (who beat the NC team) will believe that THEY don't deserve to be #1?

In the end I say there may be only 3 undefeated teams. Boise/Ala/LSU/Big twelve team(question) and maybe Wis. These things have a way of working out-its only week 7. LSU and Wis are suspect to upsets and I dont think OK/OK State are shoeins before there game. I say Notre Dame beats Stanford. My 3 are Boise/Ala/OK.Wis may go down next week and the coach at LSU is a gambling fool who blows games he should win. Ala is complete and Boise plays the easiest schedule. OK has proven they can lose games they should win. Play off system is not the answer-my answer go back to an open bid process on all bowls like it was 20 yrs ago and let the Rose Bowl keep there connections to the big whatever and the pac 12-if they want to miss out on championship games let'em. This way the Gator Bowl or Holiday Bowl ( or whoever) could pony up the $$$$$ and get their marquis game.

Oh, fer da luv a gawd, people, the term is "shoo-in," not "shoein!" Footwear has nothing to do with the term. While I'm at it, there is no "alot." only "allot" and "a lot." Oh, not to forget "noone" vs "no one."

Then there is the muddying of "their," "there" and "they're." Also don't forget that capitalization, punctuation, a dictionary, spellcheck and proofreading are your [not you're] friends – and mine.

Clear, logical positing of one's argument (not arguement) or opinion might be appreciated by the few old farts on this board. It might also inspire some of the recruits and encourage their parents that there is value in a Notre Dame experience and learning opportunity. There is life beyond Twitter and texting.

My apologies to any I may have offended. A Fall weekend without an ND game tends to make me cranky.

At least I didn't hijack a recruit's thread to vent and rant.

"Just sayin'."

Every game matters? What about all of those games that Boise State and TCU played? They went undefeated and didn't have a shot at a national championship so I guess none of their games mattered.

Playing 10 High School teams should not get you into the national championship. Strength of schedule needs to have more of an impact on determining rankings. Boise State can cry all they like, join a conference, and schedule quality opponents, not the Idaho Vandals.

Yeah it's just that easy to join a conference. If Boise State went to the Big Ten and said "Hay guis can we play football with you" the Big Ten would say "Sure! Come right in!" None of Boise State's games matter and they do not have a chance to play for a championship. BCS is bullshit.

I know some people like Sagarin, but that ranking is unbelievably horrible. It has Stanford ranked behind Nebraska and Penn State. Seriously? And then ND is at 40 behind schools like Louisiana Lafayette (#23).

Did anyone proof check this first before hitting 'send'?

Boise State actually turned down an invite to the Mountain West a few years ago. They only decided to join the MWC when they realized that playing a WAC schedule wouldn't get them into the NC. Only by the time they decided to leave their little WAC haven, TCU had already realized that even playing in the MWC wasn't good enough.

I have absolutely no sympathy for Boise State. It's nice that they've been able to schedule the likes of Georgia, Va Tech and Oregon State, but if you know you have to do better than that... why would you schedule TOLEDO as an OOC game? Obviously Notre Dame and Alabama aren't going to go play on that blue field, but surely they've got to do better than Toledo.

Boise State isn't the helpless little guy that no one would give a chance to. They are the kid that thinks beating the **** out of the AV Club makes them cool enough to sit at the big kids' table.
