ND would DESTROY Penn St, Texas, Houston and K State this year. They already have destroyed MSU, and Im quite confident they would handle most if not all of the teams ahead of them receiving votes. Texas A&M seems to be everybody's darling this year, and after watching 2 or 3 games already this year they are pathetic. They have a decent offense, but their defense makes our worst defenses of the Weis era look like world beaters.

The only team ranked with two losses is aTm, and their two losses are to Okie State and Arkansas. Those teams are Nos. 7 and 11, respectively.

It is unbelievable to me that Michigan is a top-10 team. They are straight up NOT GOOD at football. Losing that game will haunt us all year. We hand them the game and they end up in the top-10 and we might not ever get back there, even though we are clearly a better, more talented team. If we played Michigan on a neutral field tomorrow we would beat them at least three touchdowns.

What sucks is we beat the hell out of the #10 team for over 3 quarters. We definately have top ten potential.

I would put Choklahoma behind Boise St. Everyone one of those teams are better than them. In a world of what if's and should have's, ND should be just ahead of $hitty a$$ Nebraska but in reality polls do not make any sense to begin with.

Michigan State at #19 with wins over.... wait for it....

Youngstown State
Florida Atlantic
Central Michigan
and by 3 points over 3-3 Ohio State

Virginia Tech at #17 with wins over.... wait for it...

Appalachian State
East Carolina
Marshall
Arkansas State
and 3 point last-second victory over 2-3 Miami

Each one of those teams has an embarrassing loss to their name, Michigan State 18 points to Notre Dame and Virginia Tech 20 points to Clemson. I just don't get it. Teams get way too much credit for playing non-BCS teams. College football polls are so damn political.

This is the USA Today coaches poll, which involves polling 59 coaches. Note Michigan State's No. 19 rating, built on victories against weak teams. Coaches have a vested interest in voting up teams in their own conference (that way they build their own reputation when they beat a "ranked" team). The AP poll is sportswriters, who aren't the best and the brightest even in the narrow world of a newsroom. These polls just aren't worth much. I'd like to see the NCAA trim the regular season back to 10 and go to a 16-team or 24-team (byes in first round for top 12). The only challenge would be coming up with a sound basis for selecting the 24 or 16 teams. Any ideas?

How state is ranked is beyond me. They beat up on bad teams and had an offensive shootout of 10-7 against 3-3 ohio, who blew a 21 point lead yesterday. And the only real team they played so far, they got jail-sexed by.

The goal is to stay undefeated, though. Whether or not that makes sense is besides the point. Voters are too lazy to vote for a 2-loss team because of who they lost to and who they beat. The programs that understand this schedule bad teams partially to ease into the season and work out some of the kinks coming out of camp, but also because it inflates their record and gives them a head start in the polls. Unfortunately, that matters. ND, no matter who it beats, now has to keep winning and hope that teams ahead of it lose. That is just how it works.

In every other sport but football though... they aren't too lazy. That's what I don't get. Look at sports like hockey and lacrosse for examples. To give a personal example from my involvement with the lacrosse media poll, it doesn't matter if you're undefeated if you haven't played anyone... people always rank on who has the strongest resume (aka SOS, quality wins, overall W-L record, etc.). CBS Sportsline seems to do it the right way, but the coaches poll is total horseshit every week. If you look at the CBS poll, we were #18 last week at 3-2... and they had Florida State right where they should've been in the 50s.

I dunno, I'm starting to get jaded that the coaches simply boost up teams in their conference and no one has ND's back so we will continue to be discredited in that poll week after week. Interested to see where we stand in the AP Poll.

In last weeks CBS poll, Michigan was at #4 somehow.

Destroy Texas and Penn St? Slowly step away from kool aid . We are 4-2 with three of our wins being
Pitt, Airforce and Purdue. We are winning and thats good but until we knock off U.S.C or Standford. Lets keep the destroy Texas And Penn St. talk in a low whisper . We havent done much this year yet except prove Mike Floyd And Manti our first round picks.

Erm, yeah. That CBS poll is a joke. They have Michigan at 4, Texas at 5, Illinois at 11, Wisconsin at 12, Houston at 13, K State at 15, and USF at 22.

On the plus side Baylor and A&M play each other next week so right there is 1 team more than likely dropping out.
Texas is playing Okie State.
State Penn is playing Purdue.
ASU is going against Oregon.
MSU is against scUM next week
Auburn has Florida so one of them is going to have 3 losses.
Houston is on a bye week
Washington is on a bye and then heads to Palo Alto.
There is every possibility we will be ranked heading into USC.

penn state is an absolute joke this year. One touchdown yesterday, no proven QB. Their 5-1 record is a mirage, iowa looked horrible yesterday too. Oy, the B1G is gonna have one rough bowl season..

+1 They couldn't do anything against Temple either.

PS where do you think ND should be ranked and what do think our record will be at the end of the year?
