I am a 1992 graduate of Texas A&M and my husband & I have tickets to the Notre Dame/Air Force game in October. We are so excited! I have seen some great information on places to visit and things to do but I have some basic questions about travel.

I would rather take a direct flight from Dallas to Midway or Kalamazoo or similar airport than try to fly into South Bend. We would rent a car and probably pick a hotel that is in between the airport and stadium. We are flying in on Friday and out on Sunday.

What are your recommendations (for airport in particular)?

We so enjoyed having Notre Dame fans visit Kyle field a few years ago & we met some great people on gameday. We have also heard that Aggies are treated very well when we visit South Bend.

Thanks for any advice you can give!

Katie... How's about flying into ohio? Getting out of chicago is a disaster and south bend is spotty. What about Cleveland or Toledo. Cleveland is a major hub and supports many carriers. It's a 4 hour drive from there to the Dome right on the nose but it's an option. Toledo....I've never experienced, but if you flew in there, it's one hour to the border and 77 miles to the Dome. Good luck to you!!

toledo is about 2 to 2and half hours from south bend depending on how fast you drive, straight turnpike the whole way, easy trip only need to get off at the ND exit...not a bad trip and yes a much more sane airport to handle. small and fast.

Midway is a great airport to fly into if you're a fan of Southwest Airlines. From there it's about a 1.5 hour drive in to South Bend. Enjoy the game!

Midway is a great choice. Easy drive.

Love Field to Midway on SW or DFW to Midway on Delta are normally the cheapest. Have fun!

Hi Katie,

If you fly into Chicago, Michigan City has several decent hotels, and is about 40 minutes from campus. Prices there are MUCH lower than in South Bend. Folks at ND are very hospitable to guests. You'l probably hear "Welcome to Notre Dame" more than once. We aso share your love of tradition, so I hope you get to experienhce as many of them as possible. Enjoy your visit.

There's a lot of useful information in that thread. There's lots to see and do but that becomes a question of when you arrive and when you have to depart.

As for flights I'm partial to Chicago Midway with a rental car to South Bend. That's got to be a frequent and cheap flight on Southwest. There are options through other cities but another city probably means plane changes and more flight time.

As for hotels it's like most college towns on game weekends multi-night rates are common. Obviously the further out of South Bend the less influence on demand. A lot of folks, ND and visitors, opt to stay in Chicago and see that city. In that case you will encounter traffic on game day.

Enjoy your visit and when you get to the stadium tell the ND fans sitting around you how great the campus and stadium are. Mention that as a A&M fan you're simply thrilled that only 8 teams in history have beaten the University of Texas more times than Notre Dame (UTx is 2-8 against the Irish). Then casually note that "cut blocks" are simply barbaric. They violate the Geneva Convention and anyone throwing one should be arrested for aggravated assault with intent to maim.

LOL... I think what BGIF is saying is, "Welcome to the site, we're glad to have you a part of our community and we'd love it if you'd share you're best party dip recipe." Thanks for joining us here at IE.
