Just curious as to how the IE community breaks down as far as the reason for Irish fandom. As for me, it was part of an Irish Catholic upbringing; Irish/Italian father & Irish/Polish mother. Notre Dame on Saturdays as far back as I can remember. No one in my family went to school there, but would love to send my own children there if it's in the cards. Of course, the legion of knee jerk Fighting Irish haters appeals to my need for adversity. You need that to build character.

Getting harder and harder to be a fan. Even though I always will be a fan just getting hard. Next week is gonna be rough. This has the makings of another Michigan blowout.

Gotta love NDOM and his never ending optimism!!!

How can you seriously be optimistic after watching them on saturday? REALLY? The schedule gets tougher my man, not easier. 0-3 is a real possibility.

I'm Catholic so I'm one of the last to know anything about the bible (hardy har har), but here...Psalm 34:18.
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.

I'm a fan because ever since I was little, I have loved everything Notre Dame. I learned what the game of football was at 8 or 9 and I learned the Victory March word for word soon after. I couldn't get enough football, and I couldn't get enough Notre Dame.

True but if you guys took off your green colored glasses and stopped drinking the kool aid then you would be rich too.

NDOM, I told everyone I saw to bet on USF this weekend.

I thought we would win but not cover the spread.

Family went to ND I choose to play ball at a lesser Div 1 school.

Catholic.

ND Football players embody what higher education is all about...they dont take under water basket weaving as a major.

A little bit of everything. My parents grew up Irish fans because they are Catholic. When they got married my Dad's company moved him out to South Bend where my Mom got a job as a secretary at one of the buildings. They moved back to Canton before they had me. It's possible that I was conceived in South Bend but I am too afraid to ask them out of fear of being traumatized.

Grew up Irish Catholic in New York and have known nothing but ND Football on Saturdays with my grandpa, and family. I'll alway be a fan and am raising my 8 month old daughter to be the same (she's already got a bunch of gear) and I can't wait until I can take her to her first game.

I'm Irish-Catholic; which basically makes it a requirement for me to be a Notre Dame fan. I also have always been enamored by the tradition of the place. I go to another Catholic college, and I have always found it funny that just about every Catholic school in the country uses golden helmets.

Because of this site actually just like GBdomer said. Was always a casual fan until about 3 years ago when I started reading this site and it turned me into a die hard fan. Oh and I am Catholic and, as my signature says, dream of going to Notre Dame for college because of their business program and just how amazing the college is in general

Season tickets in my family since the 50s. Notre Dame is a huge part of my life in general, not just football. Not smart so I didn't get in though.

ND entire program and history inspires me in more than just atheltics. It is def rough most the time to stand behind when dissapoint often seems unavoidable, and yes the pain is ****** at times; however I wouldnt trade it for anything. Go Irish. Our lady is a saint, Ann Arbor is a whore

I'm an Irish Catholic. Not mention I grew up only knowing ND football with my Dad on Saturdays. He got it from his Dad who was also an Irish fan. I guess you could say it's in my blood.

I didn't go to school there. I am not Catholic (Southern Baptist) and I live 650 miles away. I am a fan because I love what Notre Dame stands for. I coach high school football & I tell my guys to watch ND games. I want them to see, not only the respect & discipline the players have, but the fans as well. I tell them to listen to former players give interviews. Every former player sounds respectful, humble & proper. Pretty much everything that we don't have down here in SEC country. ND students graduate & become successful, productive citizens. I am like my dad in the respect that I love tradition & respect for the game. That is Notre Dame, not just football, but Notre Dame. I, like my dad, pull for 2 teams in football....Notre Dame and whoever is Playing Michigan. HA! Someone mentioned earlier about this site & I somewhat agree. I have been a fan for 39 years (some were tough, but I have never been able to pull for anyone else) & when I stumbled onto this site I saw how passionate & respectful all of you are and it reinforced my belief in all things ND. I have never been to South Bend (it is on my bucket list though) and probably never will have the opportunity, but I have gotten to see a game in Knoxville and if was truly magical! I have taken tons of crap (and will tomorrow when we go back to school) after losses, but I bod my head high and say I would rather lose a game than my integrity. Thanks for allowing my rambling and God Bless

One game and your already jumping ship. UNBELIEF.

I think everyone just had a bad day at once. Even Cierre Wood said players make mistakes, it's just everyone did make mistakes. How about we watch more than one game before we pack it in.
