BR Article: Kiffin A Top 10 Coach

LOL. Made my day. Whole post was great. Lane is a KID who is over his head. People thought his father could bail him out. People also figure Ed O's recruiting is so good they don't need a coach. But no matter how fast and expensive the car is, you still need someone to drive it. And Lane cannot handle the Ferrari. I hope he stays at USC for a very long time.

(said in my best caveman voice) But.... Coach O know Hummer....

I just wrote this on ISD:

Since you brought up USC, as I've said since their first practice, I think Kiffy-boy is nuts. Making up for last year's lack of hitting, he is holding 3 hour marathon practices every day (plus a few 2-a-days), including a 3 hour long scrimmage at the Coliseum the first day they could don full pads. First of all, as a player I'd HATE that. I'd much rather go really strong for 2 hours than pretend to be able to go strong (both physically and mentally) for 3 hours. And 2nd of all, injuries will mount up. And of course, the injuries are mounting up:

Galippo (shoulder, still a few days away)
Scroggins (wrist, out indefinitely)
Farmer (back)
Townsend (ribs)
Walker (just returned)
Woods (ankle - returned to practice)
Carlisle (quad)
DiPaola (surgery - out for the year)
Christian Thomas
Topou (sp?) - knee
Dion Bailey
McAllister - hamstring
Tyler O'Grady (sp - never heard of him)
Christian Heyward
Brian Bauchman
Tony Burnett
TJ MacDonald (day to day)
Demetrius Wright
Cody Temple
Zack Kuschner (never heard of him, sp)

18 of those guys either missed yesterday's practice or got banged up yesterday and had to leave the practice (Carlisle, McAllister, Townsend, and Farmer). Today he's finally going to take it easy at practice, and then tomorrow a full-out scrimmage again. He says they are getting thin but that's the decision they went with and they're going to live with it.

Kiffy-boy as a top 10 coach? Child please. He wouldn't even be a top 10 coach in the Pac 12...

Obviously O'Leary.

In six years at Central Florida, he's gone 8-5 twice and was 10-4 in 2007. Last year he went 11-3 and beat Georgia in a bowl game. He's a good coach.

Ty Willingham and Bob Davie... Other than that...? No one. :)

I hear ya BUT Davie won 9 games twice and Willingham had a 10 win season at ND and a 9 win season at SU without benefit of scheduling Western Kentucky, Ohio, Memphis, Vandy, and Kentucky (5 of Kiffin's 7 wins at UTN).

Tyrone was 4-3 against the Trojans while at SU.

Davie was 3-2 against the Trojans.

Neither one of them had either the player talent nor the assistant coaching talent that Kiffin has had.

This is true... Hadn't really thought of it in those terms.

Woah, you made me go and check their sites, and while I didn't find anything definitive, I did see someone allude to it. Crazy. Add Bryce Butler to that list as well.

Woods is still being held out b/c of that lingering ankle injury. If you remember, he turned his ankle right before the spring game, supposedly playing basketball. I remember watching him warm up at their spring game, and he looked really gimpy while catching punts. They said it was a pretty bad sprain, but this has to be getting worrisome for them. He's been in and out during the summer workouts and now during camp.

Freshman kicker starting to nail the job down. He's been getting better and better. I hope he wins it...I'd love to see the freshman try to kick at ND at night with the nation watching. I know when the spotlight was on at the spring game he was friggin' AWFUL.

One more funny thing. On their podcast, their version of 'CoachD', Harvey Hyde (old school coach and usually a good listen) said that the USC wide receivers were the best in the nation LOL. I rewound just to make sure he said it, that's how shocked I was. Woods is a beast, no doubt, but the rest are all high school AAs who haven't done crap in college yet. And today, at their scrimmage, they are dropping all kinds of passes. And the 2nd WR spot, which was supposed to be a slam dunk for Prater, has gone to veteran Carswell, with nobody even close to him. Farmer and Prater have struggled. Brice Butler QUIT THE TEAM after the season, missed the spring, asked to come back to the team, and is ahead of those guys. And he sorry Harvey Hyde, but he's merely serviceable.

SC's defense better be a ton better. Because Leinart, Bush and Jarrett aren't walking through that door...

Doesn't it seem a little weird that they allowed him to come back on the team after he tweeted this?
