I LOVE THIS SONG. You don't even know how much I love 80s hair bands!

I'm embarassed to say I had the Sweet Cherry Pie single when it came out and I loved it. I especially loved the girl from the music video! Of course I was 11 so this is understandable, right?

Loving Warrant at any age is wrong..... but I'm inclined to give an 11 year old a pass.

Bobbie Brown. She married Jani Lane in 1991, but they divorced a couple years later.

I do hate to see anyone die...it saddens me.

Warrant was AWFUL though...one of the worst hair bands ever.
I would rather it have been Bret Michaels...that would have been a positive thing for society.

Warrant was not a bad band. Sure, the era was ridiculously over the top, but musically they were decent. I still have some of their stuff in my iTunes as a loyal hair band fan. Jani was a pretty good frontman in both voice and charisma. It's too bad he fell off the deep end with addiction and weight gain. I saw Jani on a bill with some other acts like Ratt, Poison and Cinderella a few years ago. He still had a good voice, just looked too heavy and not in a good place. Sad to see him pass though.

No, I most certainly meant the biggest douchebag in the United States of America, Bret Michaels.

Ok I'll bite...why is Bret Michaels the biggest douchebag in America? I beg to differ on that statement because I can think of 10 men who deserve that title, beginning with my ex! But for real why you hating on Bret? I'd hit it. Hahaha

Have you ever listened to him speak? His douchebaggery (is that even a word?) is so overpowering just in that aspect of his person that the rest requires no discussion.

You can hit it all you want, it won't change what he is. haha

I'm sorry your ex was a douche.

Back on topic...I will say that Uncle Tom's Cabin is a cool story song...but that's all the love Warrant will ever get from this guy. I LOVE to rock, but I keep it glam free! I like my rock hard and blues based...no gimmicks.

Seriously, why are you hating on Bret? The guy comes from Mechanicsburg, PA..moves to LA with like 5¢ in his pocket, then goes on to make millions and bed scores of over the top hot women. Why hate that? Because you didn't? We should all be so lucky.

He may come off a bit douchey to some...but ask yourself, if you were in his position, would you act any differently? "I'm sorry...I'm better than that...I cannot sleep with you three women and then throw a devil horns up and say rock on!"

Yeah, right.

Gimmicks are for marketing...and believe me...glam metal had more than it's fair share of gimmicks. But, if you truly appreciate music, then close your eyes to what you SEE and listen to what you HEAR. A lot of music from those bands, like Cinderella for example, was very complicated and had all sorts of influence (like blues). Have you ever listened to "Heartbreak Station" by Cinderella, or "Native Tongue" by Posion? Way, way off the beaten path from the glitzy, commercially driven fair the record company wanted you to buy. Besides, just because something is gimmicky in presentation doesn't mean it sucks. Hell, KISS was far, far more gimmicky than any of these guys and there aren't a lot of people that would say "Man, KISS sucked and I wish they had never formed." If you do, IMHO, you have no idea what rock n' roll is about.

Cinderella is a fantastic band actually. Very influential on my early guitar playing.
No argument there. I don't consider them a true "glam band". Much like Tesla they were more of a jeans and tshirt rock band.

I have closed my eyes, and Poison sucks with them open or closed man. More than the fair share of the glam era music was shameless pop rock. The glam gimmicks were far deeper than presentation. The music (barring "Fallen Angel") followed suit.
Sorry, C. C. Deville is an awful wanker. No soul in his playing at all. He admits openly to being an awful guitar player in many interviews.

I know more people who hate Kiss than people who like Kiss. Just sayin'.
I also live in a semi-rural area where late 70s and early 80s corporate rock still reigns supreme...REO Speedwagon anyone? To be honest with you...I'll take glam rock over the corporate rock of a decade before. But I have a choice and I generally skip both.

I have become quite the music snob in the past few years. The only mainstream rock music from that era of time I listen to is GnR. I prefer music to be visceral and real...glam is a little (a lot) too light for me. As a guitar player I usually don't listen to much music that has guitar tones that aren't up to par...that encapsulates around 90%(estimated) of glam rock. I also have expectations for vocalists as well...again...that eliminates a lot of the glam stuff from my play list. I realize that not everyone is like that. Pop music exists for the larger majority of people, otherwise it wouldn't exist. Like it, love it, enjoy it...remember I'm the musician and music snob with high expectations.

But 5 minutes of Bret Michaels should be enough to make anyone think he's a douchebag. My god he's made countless website lists for DB of the month lists (which are actually quite humorous for some of the other people chosen).

:) you cats can like it all you want
But Bret is and always will be a douche...
Not saying he's an awful person.
Just a douche.

I dated this guys cousin in high school... She had only met him a couple times and said he was pretty strange. Music was before my time and I thank the Lord for that!

No I hear ya Alamo. Because my brother is much older than I, I've listened to more than my fair share of rock from that era (REO, Styx, Foreigner, etc.) and for the most part I think it sucks compared to 80's glam. REO is just terrible...and I used to own their greatest hits. Now, I listen to them and think "whiny". Eh, it's all personal preference. But, Cinderella is a t-shirt and jeans band NOW...but in their first couple releases they were total glam. Look at "Night Songs"...it's a good thing I listened to the music instead of looking at the record cover because they quickly became my favorite 80's band.

I just don't see how you can enjoy "Warrant" and hate on "Poison" (Bret Micheals notwithstanding). They are very similar in style and presentation, very pop radio friendly with some good rock chops in there. C.C. sucks? C'mon...C.C. is a pretty amazing guitarist (plus he can play waaaay better than I so there is no reason for me to hate the player). Since we're on the subject though...lemme drop two names that deserve mad love:

Tesla
Queensrÿche

Yeah.

Yeah.

I don't enjoy Warrant.
And love Tesla and like Queensyche.

But no..C.C. is pretty tasteless and awful as a player.
If you've seen them live you know how he does terrible lead fills to bridge song sections. Again...terrible guitar tone! I even own a early identical amp that he liked to use quite a bit in the mid 90's...it doesn't sound like crap when I dial it in...I have it sounding like Malcom Young on Highway to Hell (album)...why does his sound so bad?

But again...CC openly calls himself a lousy guitar player in MANY interviews...
Just listen to "guitar solo" and realize how bad he can be. He is utterly not amazing.

When I was 12 and didn't play the instrument...then I thought he was killer...but I know better now...with nearly what...12 years of guitar playing under my belt.

Don't lump Tesla and Queensryche in with Poison and Warrant! Keep Poison and Warrant with the Firehouses (lead singer is from the town in which I live) and Slaughters of the world!

I'm too lazy to do the umlauts!

Let's start an REO Speedwagon HATE group shall we?

I honestly measure all guitarists against Randy Rhoads. So that's some tough competition.

I grew up in a sh*tty 3 thousand person town listening to Metallica, Pantera, and Guns n' Roses and later Alica In Chains...no wander I hate glam rock lol.

Hetfield and Stradlin' were incredibly influential in my playing. Give me some Rick Richards style playing anyday.

<<<---That is me preshow at the State Theatre in Falls Church, VA...right outside of D.C.

Killer venue...great green room. Felt like a real VIP. Watched Dame beat Michigan in my undies with catered food and a refrigerator full of the beer of our choice. Got hammered, rocked, got more hammered while another band played, and got more hammered.

I miss those days...
I can see the appeal to being a rock star.

I am currently not gigging as an electric player, but I am in a kick *** Alt-Country/folk/Americana/classic country acoustic duo...paying homage to the great songwriters of the past and today (of the genres represented of course).
