That's fair, and I acknowledged that possibility in my post. Nonetheless, the point stands that it is a seriously problematic game plan (even if it is all that you have).

an average yards per game of: 488.69
with a total of: 6353

No, our offence was just fine. Our D put us in the worst starting positions of most of D1, and we couldn't kick field goals unless it was really an extra point was the issue.

of course your offense has changed with the new coaching staff. how's denard gonig to handle a pro offense as opposed to the spread?

these are things that won't be answered til the wolverines play. you can speculate all you want off of last season's victory over us, but that's about it.

i would like to think based on the way our defense closed out last season and crist having one more season under kelly's offense (and barring any injury vs. usf)....we should be able to light you guys up.

again, speculative conversation at best. good luck Mgoblue. we always appreciate your posting around here

If Denard is restricted to only 10 carries a game max, that leaves what, prolly 20-25 carries for the rbs. Which than leaves Denard throwing the ball 20+ which I am perfectly fine with. Make him beat us through the air.

The question really isn't whether or not Denard Robinson is a great player... because he is. The question that was being raised is whether or not a team can really be successful if they put their entire offense on the back of one player. I was incredibly impressed by Denard's performance last year, but it would be idiotic to not acknowledge that he was lucky that he didn't end up injured. He's a tough kid, but if he had gone down last year your season would have taken an enormous turn for the worse. This, I think, was Irish fan's point. If a team's entire game plan revolves around a player that is running the ball 20-25 times/game (and isn't built like a running back) then one bad hit ruins a season not just for that player but for the whole team.

The upside of all of this for Michigan is that it seems that Brady Hoke realizes this. He will use Denard's talents but won't center his entire game plan around Denard's running ability. RichRod may not have had another choice, but it is wise for Brady Hoke not to put all of his eggs in one basket.

Exactly what I was trying to say, you said it much better than I did though.

Hey, you guys are arguing with the Michigan fan?

I love you guys, but some of you need to get a life.

This is the same Michigan fan that defended RichRod to the last breath last year remember? How'd that work out? All I said was he wasn't a Big10 caliber coach (sort of.)

Tell me how you think Bray-dee will do?

And speaking of changes since last year.

Michigan won because:

We had a brand new coach with a new system and less than one game ready quarterback, who we lost for half a game;

And, the defense Michigan saw from Notre Dame was nothing like what the last five or six teams on the schedule saw. And that defenses is nothing compared to what the teams will see this year!

Count your days! I got 36.

Oh I know it's all speculation on my part, I have no clue how this year will turn out. I was more referring to last years game plan not working. And I think you'd be bad with money if you were to bet on us this year, fwiw.

And thanks, I enjoy my time on this board.

I was, and still am, a fan of his Offense. His total ineptitude with the D is what got him fired, not to mention special teams.

I think Coach Hoke is doing a great job in the off season, who knows how the season will turn out.

Yes, you did, and he should of been out for the whole game. Concussions are serious.

ND certainly played better, but you still lost, again.

We'll double team Mike Martin, methinks. 600+ pounds worth to fight through on every play.

My exact point: Notre Dame was better than Michigan last year and they still lost.

The cliché, "Luck of the Irish," is facetious to the point of supreme irony. The Irish have no luck. Notre Dame, has followed suit. They had nothing break their way from the time of Matt James tragic accident, through the third week of October, 2010.

Granted the teams were both mediocre for several years. Now I don't think they are as closely matched in 2011 as they were the past couple years, and I think the Irish are a little better insulated from their own luck.

Sorry, I didn't mean you played better that day. I meant you played better throughout the year. ND's coach did a better job of coaching his players up throughout the year, we started hot, hit a wall, and went no further.

My point was we were even better, overall, that day. If not for about three abysmal minutes, we win, even with Denard having 500 yards. Neither will happen this year.

I will say this... when both teams are good... who knows... when one team is CLEARLY better on paper than the other in this series... the lesser teams wins... almost every time. I can think of few times in my life where one team was clearly better and won in this series... it's a very strange history in that respect.

and yes, I do believe we were clearly better than Michigan each of the last two years... AND I have felt the majority of the time when we won in the past like we stole one from a better team (going all the way back to the 80's)... and I also doubt Go Blue will argue much of this as he has proven year after year to be a great poster here who is more than fair.

Anyway, I do think we will field the better team this year, and I do not feel good about this game one bit.

This game is going to be Brady Hokes "Welcome to the Big Leagues" fisting party. I ordered a semi truck of vaseline to A^2 in time for the game. I like to take it easy on new coaches. Next year, he gets it dry.

I'll be attending the game, can't wait. ND is one year further along with a new coach, gives them a huge advantage. But in a rivalry like this one never knows. Should be a great game, will set one program up for the season, set one back for the season.

Why would you even use Vaseline?

I was just talking to a Michigan fan last night. All Michigan's problems are solved; they can bury the entire RichRod era, like it never existed. They have the top recruiting class in the nation. All their injured players are back, and ready to go, and their offense is clearly the best in the Big10+.

I said, "WOW!" Then I said, "You guys are so lucky!" You don't even have to go through the unproven coach proves himself, recruits actually turn ratings into work so they can raise their level of game to winning. You don't even have to deal with reality! All you need to bask in the glow if is "the Spread is Dead," and "Michigan's alumni contributions are up 25%."

Then came the negligent homicide, ND gets money from the Vatican bank, and the covering for a serial rapist charges.

Then I realized these were the same things that SC fans were saying on their blog! With the same arrogance! SC-UM east, and SC-UM West.

well, each fan base has their fair share of idiots that's for sure. i remember when i went to the VT/USC game (my 1st wife was a VT grad) at fedex field and couldn't believe how bad the usc fans were seated in our area and i was wearing my ND irish hat. nothing was said to me, but it's amazing how rude & crude they can be. eventually a fight broke out....which was no surprise.

and VT got robbed that game. some phantom offensive pass interference call on the possible winning drive for VT.

anyway, like i said....every fan base has bad apples in it.

OMG I can’t wait for this game, my scUM friend likes to send me daily Mich recruiting text messages. Like I give a sh&* about scUM. I just keep telling him that recruiting class don't mean crap unless you can develop that talent. Of course he thinks these recruits will be able to compete and dominate right away, good grief scUM fans have a good recruiting class and they are almost unbearable.

Took a look at their updated roster, here's what jumped out.

Starting OL:

Lewan: 6'8", 302
Barnum: 6'3", 292
Molk: 6'2", 286
Omameh: 6'4", 299
Schofield: 6'7", 299

The interior seems a bit small (but I know very little) for a true power running game.

Their Starting DL:

VanBergen: 6'3", 288
Martin: 6'2", 304
Campbell: 6'5", 322
Roh: 6'4", 269

The DL should be the strength of their team. I think we will have more success attacking the edges (new LBs) than up the middle in the run game.

Starting LBs:

MLB Kenny Demens: 6'1", 248
OLB Cam Gordon: 6'3", 222
OLB Jake Ryan: 6'3", 230

Demens will be a beast. I think Gordon, while a better fit at LB, is terribly slow. He was the safety that a hobbled Rudolph outran 50+ yards last year. Ryan is the unknown.

Your numbers are all current, and you're right, our OL is on the light side for a power running team (RR and all). So I wouldn't expect too much power running in the beginning, at least I hope not.

Our linebackers are new, but that's good, most Michigan fans are very happy to see Ezeh gone.
